With the passing of Lesh, who led a band called Phil Lesh & Friends often featuring musicians a half-century younger than him, the Dead’s future is increasingly in the hands of the kinds of people who showed up Sunday — ones who were not even born when Lesh, Garcia and the others began jamming together, but who were passionate enough to chalk lyrics to 50-year-old songs on the sidewalk, bring flowers or just show up to honor and celebrate the dead, and the Dead.

Grateful Dead founding member and bassist Phil Lesh died Friday morning, according to a post on his official Instagram account. Shortly afterward, the band renamed itself the Grateful Dead, with Lesh on bass and Garcia on guitar. Known for being a virtuosic bassist, Lesh is credited with redefining the sound of the bass and heavily influencing the Grateful Dead’s sound. Their triumphs and travails are at the heart of "Wildcat", a documentary filmed deep in the rainforest that premieres on Amazon's Prime Video on Friday. Then they get a call from a friend that an ocelot kitten was found by loggers and little Keanu helps Turner out of his grief. The documentary came about after Zwicker shot videos documenting Khan's upbringing, hoping it would help other conservationists return cats to the wild. Directors Trevor Frost and Melissa Lesh came on board to document the lives of Turner, Zwicker and their animals after receiving Keanu. With proceeds from the reported $20 million Amazon Studios paid for the documentary, Zwicker is building up her conservation program Hoja Nueva, while Turner has set up his own charity, Emerald Arch.
‘Wildcat’ Review: Finding Peace With Predators
  + stars: | 2022-12-28 | by ( John Anderson | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +1 min
The documentary “Wildcat” is about wildlife conservation the way Ernest Hemingway ’s “Big Two-Hearted River” was about fly-fishing. Both are, instead, about the balm of nature on the wounds of war. Directed by Melissa Lesh and Trevor Beck Frost , “Wildcat” is not a short story. It’s not: The story of Ms. Zwicker and her abusive, alcoholic but lovable father is not just background. It establishes her in the not-uncommon position of being a woman who thinks she can save a tormented man.
Now 76 and living in Oregon, Mountain Girl has gave us an exclusive look at her memoir. Altamont, the free concert that Mountain Girl and Jerry Garcia helped organized, was meant to revive the spirit of the Sixties. Today, 60 years since she took that ride with Neal Cassady, Mountain Girl is still forging her own path. Before I leave Kesey's farm, Mountain Girl and I walk outside to the old brown barn where Furthur now rests. But for Mountain Girl, it lives forever, an emblem of everything her generation believed in, and all that they achieved.
4/20, every marijuana consumer's favorite holiday, started with a group of high school kids in California. 4:20 p.m. is considered an optimal time to light up for smokers, and spaces where you can smoke marijuana are often labeled "420 friendly." "I was sittin' on our hangout spot — the wall — at San Rafael High School," Capper told host Phoebe Judge. "We'd remind each other in the hallways that we were going to meet at Louis at 4:20," Capper said. The evidence, according to "The Criminals" host Phoebe Judge, is a clipping from a San Rafael High School newspaper from 1974.
