Curtea Supremă a Venezuelei a cerut extrădarea opozantului Leopoldo Lopez, condamnat de justiţia venezueleană la 14 ani de închisoare, în contextul manifestaţiilor împotriva regimului lui Nicolas Maduro, şi refugiat de şapte luni în Spania, informează joi AFP. "Curtea Supremă (...) cere Regatului Spaniei extrădarea cetăţeanului Leopoldo Eduardo Lopez Mendoza, pentru ca acesta să ispăşească restul pedepsei la care a fost condamnat, de 8 ani, 6 luni, 25 de zile şi 12 ore", se spune într-un comunicat al Curţii. În 2017 el a fost plasat în arest la domiciliu şi apoi a participat la lovitura de stat ratată a unui grup de militari împotriva lui Maduro, în aprilie 2019. După eşuarea loviturii de stat, el s-a refugiat la ambasada Spaniei, unde a rămas până în octombrie 2020. La câteva zile după ce Lopez a sosit la Madrid, Spania şi-a înlocuit ambasadorul cu un însărcinat cu afaceri, susţinând că nu recunoaşte legitimitatea lui Maduro.
