Editor’s Note: Curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe is CNN Style’s guest editor for the month of November. The child is tucked away in the bottom left-hand corner, but in the mind of curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe, his presence fills the entire frame. But Akinkugbe holds a magnifying glass over these slim fragments, off-cuts of the dominant whitewashed narrative of art history, and forces them to take up space. “I think a lot of it was down to the fact that (art history) is viewed as an elite, white field. The coincidence at times feels “sinister” for Akinkugbe, but she believes there is longevity in the increased interest in and support for Black art and artists.

CNN —Last night, British actor Andrew Garfield arrived at the London Film Festival premiere of his latest film “We Live in Time” sporting a surprising accessory. Wedged under his arm like a beloved clutch bag on a night out, Pugh’s rigid two-dimensional form topped off Garfield’s outfit perfectly. His black leather Valentino loafers matched his belt, but Garfield wasn’t complete without his 5 foot 4 inches of cardboard. CNN —First Rihanna’s bathrobe, now Gigi Hadid’s DHL tape dress — it seems that luxury fashion is looking right under our noses (or at least inside our houses) for inspiration. On Friday, Hadid walked in the Vetements show during Paris Fashion Week wrapped tightly in a roll of yellow and red DHL-branded packing tape. The adhesive tool was styled into a strapless mini dress, while two heeled pumps were wrapped in the same tape to match. The tape dress was paired with two heeled pumps similarly covered in the branded adhesive. In 2011, Iowa State University staged its first annual duct tape fashion show — covered by the New York Times — only permitting designs that were made entirely from the hardware store staple.

Tom Daley, the 30-year-old Team GB diver who won his fifth Olympic medal earlier this week, has unveiled his latest achievement: a handknitted Paris Games themed sweater. Daley has been photographed knitting during every stolen moment while in Paris for the Olympic Games — whether he is watching his teammates compete or resting between his own events. “I don’t know how to just do nothing,” Daley said during an interview with CNN in Paris on Thursday. “So I sketched it out, made tension gauges and did the measurements and the maths to be able to figure out how to make it… You know (knitting) can be quite technical at times.
