There were no deaths in a Chicago, Illinois, shooting on Oct. 29 in which 15 people were injured, contrary to online posts falsely claiming that the incident had left 15 dead but that it is not being reported by news outlets. Posts on social media on Oct. 29 said: “Why did a Chicago mass shooting that killed 15 early Sunday am go unreported in national media? Around 1 a.m. on Oct. 29 in Chicago, officers responded to a call about shots fired in the neighborhood of North Lawndale, according to a release on the Chicago Police Department (CPD) website. In a media conference on Oct. 29, CPD 10th District Commander William Betancourt said the shooting occurred at a Halloween gathering. Chicago's cycling community has exploded in recent years, and the city plans to add 150 more miles of lanes to accommodate this growth. The new, ambitious Chicago Cycling Strategy from the Chicago Department of Transportation, worth over $17 million, includes expanding Chicago's bike network by designing and implementing 150 miles of low-stress bikeways over the next several years. If you have friends that ride, ride together, if you have family members that are willing to ride, especially older ones, ride with them. Earlier in the pandemic, Chicago launched a program to give away 5,000 bikes to eligible Chicago residents by 2026. Green Corps participants have helped to assemble the bikes in the Bike Chicago program.
