I moved from the US to South Korea in 2013, and there are some things I don't miss about America. Here are nine things I don't miss about living in the US. There's a large US military presence in South Korea, and many Americans have brought their tipping habits with them overseas. For example, in South Korea, I've seen candidates ride around in the bed of a truck blasting their campaign theme song. When I travel outside South Korea, I'm often stunned by the slow internet speeds and spotty public WiFi.

Over the last 17 years, Ingrim, 36, has lived in France, Canada, the UK, Malta and now Italy. That's the minimum amount of time you'll need to start shopping and doing chores like you live there, Ingrim says. "If you go for two weeks, you're not really fully going grocery shopping," he says. Swiping through photos of the renovated Manhattan apartment her parents had just purchased for her, I felt a twinge of longing. As a result, I budget and invest my money seriously because, let's face it, I'm not rolling in cash as a 23-year-old public school teacher. My parents' approach means I'm thoughtful when spending moneyDespite challenges, though, I appreciate that my parents encourage my financial independence. When Sampson Dahl, 28, found a former laundromat in Maspeth, Queens on an online forum back in 2019, he had no idea how much the space would become his life. Early last year, CNBC Make It met Dahl after his former laundromat-turned-apartment went viral on TikTok. At the time, he was paying $1,850 a month — his rent has since increased to $1,900. "I've gotten to focus on the space a lot, so I've been throwing shows, events, and intimate gatherings almost weekly at this point," Dahl tells CNBC Make It. Washington, DC CNN —Americans are living through the toughest housing market in a generation and, for some young people, the quintessential dream of owning a home is slipping away. Mortgage rates surged in recent years, hitting the highest levels in more than two decades last fall. CNN spoke with some young Americans about their thoughts on the current state of the US housing market and their plans for the future. “The housing market is not a single person’s market.”What typically happens when a regional housing market becomes too unaffordable is that people without the means simply move somewhere cheaper, such as a suburb an hour away, for example. Still, affordability takes into account mortgage rates, family incomes and single-family home prices, which remain a vexing pain point.

Steven Robert Sablan, 62, abducted the girl at gunpoint on or about July 6, 2023, in San Antonio and “engaged in sexual activity” with her while driving her to Long Beach, California, the plea agreement states. The child was rescued on July 9, 2023, after Sablan went into a laundromat in Long Beach, California, and the girl held up a “Help Me!” sign from inside Sablan’s parked vehicle. A good Samaritan called 911 after spotting the sign, and Long Beach police officers said at the time the girl was “visibly emotional and distressed” when they arrived. Sablan faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, the US Attorney’s office said in the news release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender when released from prison, the plea agreement says.

TERRACE STORY, by Hilary LeichterPriced out of their first home in an unnamed city, a young couple and their infant daughter, Rose, move into a smaller apartment. Structured as a collection of four linked stories, the book moves from Annie and Edward to another young couple, George and Lydia, who happens to be Rose’s daughter and is pregnant with her own. In the third section — the longest and most revelatory — Annie’s co-worker Stephanie is the focus of a grief-stricken origin story that deepens the novel’s supernatural fancies. The fourth section, set on an interstellar “suburb” as humanity migrates into outer space, brings Rose into contact with an “older woman” who is somehow Rose’s granddaughter. By contrast, Leichter announces her metaphysical conceit with a simple dinner party.

It shows how remote workers, or hybrid workers, crave a third space that isn't work or home. As the Wall Street Journal reports, gyms are the latest venture to break into offering coworking space. Its website touts that the gym's members lounge "offers communal work tables and social lounge spaces available from open until close for all club members," where members can "catch up on some work" or "just relax after your workout." As research on remote workers' time use shows, more are using their breaks to work out or participate in other leisure activities. That could explain why a gym-based coworking space is so appealing: You get the ability to socialize, work out, and still get your work done.

The post included images of the two exchanging rings and another of them sitting snuggled together on a bed decorated with flower petals. Todt posted the framed image on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, over the weekend, thanking long-time Bond producer Barbara Broccoli for the “touching” wedding gift. CNN —A 13-year-old kidnapping victim was rescued in Southern California after making a “Help Me!” sign to alert passersby, which then led to the arrest of a Texas man. Steven Robert Sablan, 61, is now facing federal kidnapping charges for the incident in which he is alleged to have pulled a gun on the girl as she walked along a sidewalk in San Antonio, Texas, earlier this month. “If you don’t get in the car with me, I am going to hurt you,” Sablan told the victim, according to court documents. A black handgun, later determined to be a BB gun, a switchblade, and handcuffs, were found in Sablan’s vehicle, according to the federal affidavit. If convicted on both charges, Sablan could face a sentence of up to life in prison.

Elon Musk said Twitter users have to temporarily sign in to view tweets to stop AI data scraping. Musk threatened companies that "stole" Twitter data with legal action and said he's open to ideas. Elon Musk said Twitter had to take "drastic and immediate" action to restrict access to tweets because AI companies were stealing its data. The Twitter CEO said Friday he took action to stop AI firms from "extreme levels" of data scrubbing. Hundreds of companies were "scraping Twitter data extremely aggressively", Musk said, adding that social media companies without an authentication process were at risk of becoming "bot-strewn hellscapes."
