Autonomous taxis are winning over women in cities like San Francisco by offering an answer to a long-standing concern about ride-hailing apps: misbehavior by human drivers, especially men. Now, those driver safety concerns are helping to fuel the popularity of autonomous taxis — especially for women traveling alone or at night. About three-quarters of Lyft and Uber drivers are men, according to industry and academic surveys. Lyft said in a statement to NBC News that it continues to try to improve safety, including with driver background checks, driver ratings, driver education and an emergency phone line for passengers. In 2023, Lyft started a feature, Women+ Connect, that allows women or nonbinary drivers to opt in to prefer riders who are women or nonbinary, and vice versa.

As BetMGM tries to regain momentum in the gaming market, it's banking in part on gains in NFL betting and the draw of new technology. CEO Adam Greenblatt is counting on newly launched technology to woo customers, he told CNBC on Tuesday at the Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. During the spring baseball season, BetMGM credited the new tech for powering a 209% increase in MLB home run betting over the same time frame a year earlier. Techies, salespeople, and industry executives are arriving in Nevada this week for MWC Las Vegas, which kicks off today. Hard Rock has the monopoly on sports betting in the state, winning the exclusive tribal gaming compact following a hard-fought battle against Flutter -owned FanDuel, DraftKings and Penn Entertainment. When asked about comments made by FanDuel CEO Amy Howe on trying again to get into the Florida market, Hard Rock International Chairman and Seminole Gaming CEO Jim Allen said he's open to it. FanDuel and DraftKings declined to comment on the possibility of entering into a deal with Hard Rock. Last December at Seminole Hard Rock, the company marked what it called "a new chapter in Florida gaming," when it launched sports betting and expanded the casino table games across six Seminole Casinos in Florida. Allen declined to give specifics on sports gaming revenue in Florida on the basis that the tribe is a sovereign nation.
