“Far too often, patients relying on federal government health care programs are forced to accept bureaucratic, one-size-fits-all coverage,” Crapo said. But Trump’s lack of specificity about health care could empower Oz to fill in the blanks. Oz said on an AARP questionnaire: “We can expand Medicare Advantage plans. If Oz is confirmed and chooses to push more people into Medicare Advantage, as he has pitched, he may not have too hard a time. “In our focus groups, people say they’re satisfied with both traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage, and they make their choices based on different preferences,” Neuman said.

Andrew Harnik | Getty ImagesPresident-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House is poised to have big impacts on consumer health care. CMS, in turn, administers the Affordable Care Act marketplace and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), among other endeavors. A spokesperson for Trump's transition team did not respond to a request from CNBC for comment about the President-elect's health policy plans. Still, it's a 'big' gamble to forgo health insurance Around 3.8 million people will lose their health insurance if the subsidies expire, the Congressional Budget Office estimates. Short-term health insurance plans offer coverage for limited amounts of time, and typically on fewer medical services than comprehensive coverage.

“Democrats always want to be talking about health care because they have a political advantage over Republicans on the issue with voters,” Larry Levitt, executive vice president for health policy at KFF, a nonpartisan health policy research organization, told CNN. “Americans care about health care. They want to know where the candidates stand when it comes to health care,” Sarah Fioroni, a senior researcher at Gallup, told CNN. Early in the campaign, Trump revived talk of wanting to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with something better. The Trump campaign accused the Harris campaign of “lying because they are losing,” Karoline Leavitt, the campaign’s national press secretary, said in an email to CNN.

President Biden said on Tuesday that his administration will be "monitoring for any price gouging activity" that benefits foreign ocean carriers, including those on the USMX board. He also said "foreign ocean carriers have made record profits since the pandemic, when Longshoremen put themselves at risk to keep ports open." UBS forecast that 20% of Maersk's total volume would touch a U.S. port that would be impacted by the strike. Acting Secretary Julie Su lashed out at the idea that labor wage increases would be passed onto U.S. exporters and importers. CNN —Thousands of Florida residents have been forced to evacuate as the state prepares for rapidly strengthening Tropical Storm Helene, which could bring powerful winds, flooding and life-threatening storm surge to areas already hard-hit by recent hurricanes. The Big Bend area faces the most serious storm surge: up to 15 feet of it is possible. Over in Sanibel, one couple who met during Hurricane Ian in 2022 and nearly lost everything are now going to weather Tropical Storm Helene together, CNN affiliate WINK reported. Large clouds move over Havana due to the proximity of the tropical storm Helene, on September 24. Officials in neighboring Pinellas County warned hundreds of homes would likely flood with a higher storm surge than in past destructive storms.

WASHINGTON — To hear Republican nominee Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance tell it, he wasn’t trying to eliminate the Affordable Care Act as president. “Obamacare was lousy health care. Vance added: “It illustrates Donald Trump’s entire approach to governing, which is to fix problems.”Both Trump and Vance are misrepresenting the facts. As president, Trump fought to repeal and undo the ACA using executive action, legislation and lawsuits. “Which means no actual plan.”“And 45 million Americans are insured through the Affordable Care Act,” she said.

After eight years of threatening to repeal the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, former President Donald Trump still doesn’t have a comprehensive plan to replace it. People in the U.S. pay roughly twice as much for health care than any other nation on earth. But is it feasible to create a new health care law that reduces the escalating costs? “Right now, Obamacare is the status quo in health care,” said Larry Levitt, executive vice president of health policy at KFF, a nonprofit group that researches health policy issues. Harris has committed to extending the subsidies; Trump has remained silent.

Harris hasn’t yet released many details about her strategy to wipe out medical debt, but policy experts say a newly implemented medical debt relief program from North Carolina could offer a roadmap. Roy Cooper announced that nearly 100 hospitals in the state had signed on to participate in the Medical Debt Relief Incentive Program, which he said will incentivize hospitals to eliminate $4 billion in medical debt for 2 million low- and middle-income patients over the next two years. At a campaign event last week in Raleigh, North Carolina, Harris thanked Cooper for canceling medical debt in his state, and Cooper introduced Harris at the convention Thursday. Hospitals will get additional federal funds if they forgive existing debt and move to prevent future medical debt. “I see medical debt as the most salient example of a health care system which isn’t working,” he said.

AP —Firefighters found a dead woman entangled in machinery Thursday in a non-public baggage-processing area at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. Larry Langford, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department, said firefighters were called to the airport around 7:45 a.m. for a report of a person pinned in machinery used to move baggage. He said they discovered the woman entangled in a conveyer belt system in a baggage room. The baggage room wasn’t publicly accessible, Langford said, and it’s not clear how she found her way into it. After checking with the police department about the timing, Langford said he was told surveillance footage shows the woman walking in the baggage room at 2:27 a.m.

And they were everywhere, although, naturally, New York City was a magnet, as it has always been for L.G.B.T.Q.+ people looking for a place in which they can be themselves. New York City was where you lost your soul, and we wanted to be closer to the earth. I wore an eight-and-a-half-foot-tall Statue of Liberty costume to the Easter Parade in New York City, and Kirsten came along with me. By the time I turned 30, I’d been telling people I was older for years, because I’m not the type to bemoan the loss of my youth. Going to New York felt like this moment of emerging to a wider audience, and then I started to travel a lot.

Most of those efforts failed, but they have fueled harmful rhetoric around drag performers and the art form itself. Barbara Alper/Getty ImagesDrag has become increasingly visible in recent years through mainstream shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and popular public events such as drag brunches, drag bingo and drag queen story hours, in which drag performers read children’s books to young audiences, often at libraries. Pickle reads from a book during the Drag Queen Story Hour program at a Los Angeles library in 2019. These lawmakers falsely claim that drag performers “groom” or sexualize children, of which there is also no evidence. It’s why Alaska Thunderf**k, the blonde bouffanted winner of the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” first got into drag – to make art that wasn’t bound by rules.

The bombs used in the Israeli strike that killed dozens of Palestinians in a camp for displaced people near Rafah on Sunday were made in the United States, according to weapons experts and visual evidence reviewed by The New York Times. U.S. officials have been encouraging the Israeli military for months to increase the use of GBU-39 bombs in Gaza because they are generally more precise and better suited to urban environments than larger bombs, including U.S.-made 2,000-pound bombs that Israel routinely uses. “This is the smallest munition that our jets can use.”In response to questions from The Times, the Israeli military declined to specify the munition used. Opinion: How Trump plans to win the presidency
  + stars: | 2024-04-12 | by ( Julian Zelizer | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
A potentially successful multi-prong strategy with electoral, media, legal, legislative and third-party intervention appears to be in place. Julian Zelizer Larry LevantiWhile 2020 was about subverting the Electoral College, Trump has been trying to work the rules to his advantage in 2024. These tactics build on the ways that Trump’s campaign had moved to shift primary rules to favor him. Trump is also working the 24-hour cable news and social media ecosystem to his advantage. When a bipartisan group of senators pushed a right-of-center immigration and foreign aid bill, Trump rallied his House minions to subvert passage.

Larry Lucchino, who as a top executive with the Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres oversaw the design and construction of modern stadiums that evoke their surroundings — Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore and Petco Park in San Diego — and who as president of the Boston Red Sox preserved Fenway Park for generations, died on Tuesday. The Red Sox announced the death but did not say where he died or give a cause. He had been treated for cancer three times. In Mr. Lucchino’s 14 years with the team, the Red Sox won the World Series three times — the first of those championships, in 2004, broke an 86-year drought — and reached the postseason seven times. He oversaw improvements to Fenway Park that included installing seats above the Green Monster, the 37-foot-high left field wall, and vastly expanding concourses and concession areas.

But as the special election to succeed the disgraced former congressman has made painfully clear to Democrats, Santos’ victory was not a fluke or anomaly. (Less so 40 years ago, when Republicans ran roughshod here and Ronald Reagan alluded to Nassau County as a Republican’s idea of heaven.) Nassau County in 2024 is sharply divided and – in a word – angry. The year before, Democrat Laura Curran, the top official in Nassau County, was ousted by Republican Bruce Blakeman. A special election in the suburbs of New York to replace disgraced former Rep. George Santos could offer clues about the mindset of suburban voters everywhere as 2024 election contests ramp up across the country. “This is a big concern for my district,” Pilip said. He had a comfortable victory in his last race in the district in 2020, defeating Santos, then a relatively unknown Republican. Another question that has loomed over the race has been whether the district will exist in its current form for much longer. The ruling was a major win for Democrats in the state who have angled for more favorable congressional districts.

The need for more transplant organs is immense and growing. Researchers have transplanted genetically modified pig kidneys and hearts into people who were brain-dead to test whether they work in humans. Although Larry Faucette was too sick for a human heart transplant, University of Maryland doctors said he seemed physically strong enough for a genetically modified pig heart. It was more than a decade after the first heart transplant but long before such procedures became relatively routine. “We learned that the pig heart is an adequate substitute for a human heart.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Few people proselytize about the importance of tight ends more than San Francisco's George Kittle. So Kittle showed no surprise about the fact that the four teams playing on championship weekend all rely heavily on the tight end in the passing game. "Tight ends give you the ability to mismatch whether it's on linebackers or safeties. “I’ve got a lot of respect for the way he plays the game, man,” said Lions coach Dan Campbell, a former NFL tight end. The second-round pick set a rookie playoff record for tight ends with nine catches last week and his 86 for the season also were the most ever for a rookie tight end.

But perhaps there's a lesson to be learned from Detroit's approach — and from the other three teams remaining in the NFL playoffs. The Lions, Ravens, 49ers and Chiefs have all reached this point after making significant investments at positions that aren't always prioritized around the league. He's the highest-paid running back in the league based on average annual value, according to overthecap.com. “The middle of our defense especially are great players,” Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald said. The Lions took Jack Campbell — a middle linebacker.

But with the primary over, it appears that this is not true. Donald Trump made gains even among suburban Republicans. This appears to be who the party is now and who they want to represent them. Larry LobertGrosse Pointe Park, Mich.To the Editor:The takeaway from the New Hampshire primary is not that Nikki Haley can’t win the Republican nomination. We knew that already, as well as that the Republican Party has been hijacked by Donald Trump and his MAGA supporters, with G.O.P.
