Health insurance companies, by contrast, don't appear to spend as much on executive protection. That level of monitoring can be expensive, and the amount companies pay for executive security varies widely. Health insurance companies, including UnitedHealth Group, don't appear to spend as much on executive protection as some of the Big Tech giants. That amount represented $14,850 in 401(k) matching and $6,337 in health insurance premiums, with no amount indicated for personal security. Two executive-protection consultants say they were surprised UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson didn't appear to have a bodyguard when he was shot and killed walking into a hotel in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday — though one said it likely wouldn't have saved his life. "Basically, I don't know, a lack of coverage? I don't know details. But, he said, even if Thompson had such a security detail, it might not have stopped a motivated shooter. Astrud Gilberto, the Brazilian singer, songwriter and entertainer whose off-hand, English-language cameo on "The Girl from Ipanema" made her a worldwide voice of bossa nova, has died at age 83. "The Girl from Ipanema," the wistful ballad written by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, was already a hit in South America. In a 2002 interview with friends posted on her web site, Astrud Gilberto remembered her husband saying he had a surprise for her at the recording studio. "When we were finished performing the song, Joao turned to Stan, and said something like: 'Tomorrow Astrud sing on record… What do you think?' Astrud Gilberto sings "The Girl from Ipanema" in a light, affectless style that influenced Sade and Suzanne Vega among others, as if she had already moved on to other matters.
