The news is a particular blow to Vice President Kamala Harris, since the union was the first to endorse Joe Biden's presidential bid in 2020. In a statement, Edward A. Kelly, the union's president, said that the group's executive board voted on Thursday by 1.2% not to endorse. Both presidential campaigns made personal appeals to the union’s members at a convention in Boston in August, with Minnesota Gov. Last month, the Teamsters union, which represents over 1 million truck drivers, freight workers and others, also declined to endorse a presidential candidate. The AFL-CIO and the United Auto Workers union — which represent millions of workers combined — have each endorsed Harris this cycle.

But there’s a small, powerful sect of Silicon Valley billionaires who are carving a path for the maybe-Trumpers and the MAGA-curious in the tech world. David Sacks, the billionaire tech investor, co-hosted a fundraiser last month at his San Francisco home and spoke at the Republican National Convention on Monday. In the last election cycle, the few Trump backers that existed in the Valley largely kept their support under the radar. Their numbers are still small, but they’re no longer hiding, and their wallets are open. And, as Kovacevich notes, just because there are a few big names turning toward Trump, “they’re not speaking for everybody.”“In fact, most of the big company CEOs aren’t terribly involved in partisan politics,” Kovacevich says.

First, the conventions of the criminal trial – like those in thousands of courtrooms every day – mean this case will grind on relentlessly. In previous civil trials, Trump challenged the dignity of the rule of the court and feuded with other judges. But potential jurors appeared to take their obligation deeply seriously. But other potential jurors said they’d be able to put any political feelings about Trump to one side and focus on the evidence and the law. And in another revealing trend that hinted at the ex-president’s political appeal, some potential jurors mentioned that they viewed his rhetorical eruptions as those of someone who speaks his mind, unlike conventional politicians.

The website says it has no connection to Trump's campaign, though Trump campaign officials promoted the appearance in online posts. Trump's appearance was met with clashing boos from his detractors and chants of “USA!” from supporters who arrived at the sneaker event decked out in Trump gear. The attendees skewed younger and more diverse than Trump's usual rally crowds and some black attendees were seen leaving as Trump spoke. Trump's campaign is hoping he will be able to win over more young and minority voters, particularly young Black men, in a likely rematch against President Joe Biden in November. The new sneaker website says it is run by CIC Ventures LLC, a company that Trump reported owning in his 2023 financial disclosure.

But I do still love Trump.”The winner of South Carolina's Republican primary has won the nomination all but one time since 1980. Haley, as a state legislator in 2010, trounced older, more established candidates in a Republican primary on her way to winning two gubernatorial elections. On paper, South Carolina offers the broad Republican coalition Haley has sought. South Carolina has a large presence of every Republican faction: evangelicals and social conservatives; anti-tax Tea Party activists; national security hawks; business-minded traditionalists. South Carolina voters do not register by party and choose which major party primary to participate in each election cycle.

That explains why Trump got about half of all the Republican votes in Iowa, leaving DeSantis far behind. That should tell you a lot about Iowa voters, but enough of them also voted for DeSantis and Haley. When I spoke to the Haley campaign early Monday morning, before the Iowa caucuses had begun, they said they were shifting toward Trump, seemingly writing DeSantis off as their closest threat. DeSantis himself said last week that his finish in Iowa could “upend” Trump’s lead in the GOP primary. Join us on Twitter and FacebookAnd as one DeSantis campaign committee member said, “a close second would be a successful outcome,” and “third place is not good.”Needless to say, DeSantis did not win.

Working-class voters delivered the Republican Party to Donald J. Trump. Often overlooked in an increasingly blue-collar party, voters with a college degree remain at the heart of the lingering Republican cold war over abortion, foreign policy and cultural issues. Even as Mr. Trump dominates Republican primary polls ahead of the Iowa caucuses on Monday, it was only a year ago that he trailed Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida in some surveys — a deficit due largely to the former president’s weakness among college-educated voters. Mr. DeSantis’s advisers viewed the party’s educational divide as a potential launching point to overtake Mr. Trump for the nomination.

But the fraud case in New York threatens to shred Trump’s cherished self-image as an ultimate winner. Just so you know, my financial statements are phenomenal,” Trump said before the trial opened. “They’re hitting him where it hurts,” one source told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about Trump’s decision to attend the trial on Monday. Trump’s bluster and political showmanship are proven to work, as his huge lead in the GOP presidential primary shows. But Trump’s legal fate in this and all the other cases will not be decided on campaign trails but in courtrooms.

In a tight election, amid questionable economic conditions and with the normality that Biden promised in 2020 still fleeting, the threat may be greater than ever. A pseudo general election campaignBoth Trump and Biden showed up in Michigan courting blue-collar votes this week. He returned to the theme that democracy is under attack – seemingly a slam dunk given Trump’s week of autocratic outbursts and demagoguery. And all previous evidence suggests that, among GOP voters at least, Trump legal travails only boost his poll numbers and fundraising. To anyone who has forgotten the constant tearing at legal, political and constitutional norms that characterized almost every day of the last presidency, Gaetz and his fellow MAGA troops are proving that Trumpism sows chaos.

Donald Trump holds a commanding lead in a new poll of likely Iowa caucus-goers. A new Register/NBC News/Mediacom Iowa Poll found that Trump is viewed favorably by 65% of likely GOP caucus-goers and unfavorably by 33%. A majority (52%) of likely caucus-goers said they could still be persuaded to support another candidate. The Iowa Poll was conducted Aug. 13-17, 2023 by telephone.

Rudy Giuliani gained notoriety as a prosecutor for going after New York City mafias in the 1980s. Recently, he was indicted on RICO charges — the same prosecutorial tool he used to take down mafias. A lawyer who represented prominent New York mobsters said his clients are "fucking thrilled." "I don't want to say the language, but they really ripped Rudy a new a------," he told the outlet. Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who witnessed Giuliani's political rise in the city, also chimed in and told Politico that the indictment was "more than Shakespearean."

[1/3] Republican U.S. presidential candidate former Vice President Mike Pence addresses The Faith and Freedom Coalition's 2023 "Road to Majority" conference in Washington, U.S., June 23, 2023. The event, which former President Donald Trump will address on Saturday, coincides with the first anniversary of the Supreme Court's landmark Dobbs decision, which overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that had legalized abortion. Apart from Pence, the other Republican candidates did not plunge deeply into policy specifics. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is second in opinion polls to the front-runner Trump, referred to a six-week abortion ban that he signed in his state earlier this year. Trump has attempted to ally himself with opponents of abortion rights, while also dodging specific questions on legislation he would or would not support.

Ron DeSantis has a ‘lovability’ problem
  + stars: | 2023-05-28 | by ( Harry Enten | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +5 min
DeSantis, himself, has a bit of a “lovability” problem among Republican voters. The key to differentiate yourself in a primary is to be beloved (i.e., have a high strongly favorable rating). Back in December, 40% of Republican voters in a Fox News poll had a strongly favorable opinion of the Florida governor. Last month, the same poll found DeSantis’ share of strongly favorable support dropping to 33%. An ABC News/Washington Post poll released earlier this month found that 68% of Republican voters would be satisfied if DeSantis were the nominee.
Tucker Carlson said a "wounded" Donald Trump called him after his "hate" texts were made public. "I hate him passionately," the Fox News host texted of Trump, according to recent court filings. Carlson added, "And I said this to Trump when he called me, you know, all wounded about those texts. On the day of the deadly US Capitol riot, Carlson called Trump a "demonic force" in a text message to his producer, according to court documents. "At the time, I was just blaming the Trump campaign, and I was livid."
Trump's ex-CFO, Allen Weisselberg, was sentenced Tuesday to five months in NYC's Rikers jail. Rikers guards love Trump and will give better treatment to Weisselberg, 75, one expert predicts. Being 75 years old and in the news will also help Weisselberg, predicted the expert, Five Mualimmak-Ak, a jail-reform activist and former detainee who visits Rikers frequently. "Ninety-percent of the guards are Trump supporters, even though most of them are Black and Latino women," said Mualimmak-Ak, program director for LIFE Camp, a city-based nonprofit. "So he'll get preferential treatment from the guards because he is a Trump supporter.
Kanye West said former President Donald Trump screamed at him during dinner at Mar-a-Lago. The rapper said Trump told him Ye would lose in 2024 if he ran for president. Ye talked about meeting Trump in Florida in a Thursday video dubbed "Mar-a-Lago debrief." "I'm like whoa hold on, hold on, hold on. The rapper said Trump was "perturbed" by Ye asking the former president to be his running mate in 2024.
WelcomePAC, a Democratic-funded group that aims to reach ticket-splitting voters this fall, has launched a six-figure advertising campaign against Republican J.D. “WelcomePAC is launching the ‘Why No J.D.’ campaign to highlight why so many disaffected Republicans and independents are rejecting J.D. Luke Schroeder, a spokesperson for the Vance campaign, cast the effort as a waste of money. Ryan has tailored his message to appeal to independent and GOP voters and his campaign has far outraised Vance’s. He also spends considerable time in his stump speeches wrestling with Ryan’s overtures to GOP voters.
Video shows Donald Trump boasting about his popularity with Jewish groups. In the video, he said Persians are "very good salesmen" and talked about his popularity with Jews. When he noticed Holder, Trump stopped and asked someone, "Is this a good Jewish character right here?" Trump also recently made remarks against American Jews, which White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denounced as "antisemitic." In the footage, Trump continued to talk about his supposed contributions to the Jewish community.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis speaks after the primary election for the midterms during the "Keep Florida Free Tour" at Pepin's Hospitality Centre in Tampa, Florida, U.S., August 24, 2022. But introduced as "America's governor," DeSantis' one-hour speech sounded like a presidential-style campaign address heavy on his Florida track record. The X-factor remains former President Donald Trump, a fellow Republican who has strongly suggested he will launch another White House run. A USA Today/Suffolk poll released on Wednesday showed DeSantis leads Trump 48%-40% among Florida Republicans in a 2024 presidential primary contest. We're about getting Ron DeSantis to run and electing him so we beat Joe Biden and save our country."
