Currie is still grappling with what she lost, including her ability to turn away from climate change. Ajayi believes that once people connect the dots on the effects of climate change, they’ll start to take action. Photographs by Tatsiana Chypsanava When Sara Saumanaia thinks about climate change, she thinks about both of her homes. The area is especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change; after a heavy rain, the streets around Saumanaia’s home regularly flood. Once, during a lesson on climate change, Saumanaia’s science teacher asked if anyone in the class was from Tuvalu.

Editor’s Note: Curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe is CNN Style’s guest editor for the month of November. The child is tucked away in the bottom left-hand corner, but in the mind of curator and art historian Alayo Akinkugbe, his presence fills the entire frame. But Akinkugbe holds a magnifying glass over these slim fragments, off-cuts of the dominant whitewashed narrative of art history, and forces them to take up space. “I think a lot of it was down to the fact that (art history) is viewed as an elite, white field. The coincidence at times feels “sinister” for Akinkugbe, but she believes there is longevity in the increased interest in and support for Black art and artists.

London CNN —At Frieze London this year, three large artworks by the artist Nengi Omuku were hung away from the walls so viewers could walk around them. The other presented strips of sanyan, a thick traditional Nigerian fabric that Omuku uses to replace the usual canvas fabric painters often use as their base. “The fact I’m painting on a vintage surface gives soul to my work,” Omuku said over Zoom two days before the fair opens. Omuku's work is painted directly onto strips of sanyan, a thick traditional Nigerian fabric. “I’d never seen a pre-colonial Nigerian textile before, and it looked quite similar to linen.”The artist has exhibited in Paris, New York, Bangkok and London.

I think quiet vacationing may be good for productivity; I was genuinely so happy while traveling the world, and it translated into my productivity at work. On some quiet vacationing days, I had to work a little later to get things across the line, but I became very efficient. It’s a serene sight — except for the one thing Mr. Antezana, a retired oceanographer, cannot ignore. The South American country is the top exporter of farmed salmon to the United States. For more than four decades, Mr. Antezana has watched the industry grow into one of the world’s leading producers of farmed salmon. Last year, farmed salmon was Chile’s second-largest export, generating $6.5 billion in revenue. Most of the farmed salmon eaten in the United States comes from overseas, with almost half from the fjords of Chile.

The state’s police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun told CNN in a statement that operatives arrested 11 armed “hoodlums” who set fire to a government building after looting it. Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju told CNN Thursday that there were counter-demonstrations by pro-government protesters who arrived in buses accompanied by a security vehicle. “In the northern part of Nigeria, the largest part of our country … the primary cause of hunger is insecurity. He added that Nigerians were also pained watching their leaders live in luxury while they struggled to make ends meet. CNN —A West African court has found the Nigerian government guilty of human rights abuses during its suppression of the 2020 #EndSARS protests against alleged police brutality. Around two weeks into the 2020 protests, Nigeria’s security forces opened fire on young people demonstrating peacefully at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, killing and wounding several people. Their lawyer, Bolaji Gabari, described the verdict as “a significant victory for the #EndSARS movement.”CNN has reached out to the Nigerian government for comment. But the marches morphed into protests campaigning for police reform and ending bad governance in the oil-rich country. The Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution at the Lagos Court of Arbitration, a government-appointed panel, determined that the incident at the Lekki Toll Gate could be considered a “massacre” after a yearlong investigation.

Verizon told some of its customers on social media that it was also aware of the issue and that its teams were working with local providers to resolve it. A T-Mobile representative said the carrier was one of “several providers impacted by a third-party vendor’s issue that is intermittently affecting some international roaming service” and was also working to resolve it. George Lagos, a 70-year-old real estate developer from Dunedin, Fla., who is visiting the Greek island of Crete with his family, noticed yesterday that his T-Mobile cellular data was not working. For about 24 hours, he said, he was not able to reach the people he had made plans with, though luckily, they had already gone over the details together. “You know it’s an inconvenience, but it wasn’t a disaster,” said Mr. Lagos, whose service appeared to be restored by Thursday evening.
