Silverman discussed her copyright infringement lawsuit against OpenAI, which owns ChatGPT. Comedian Sarah Silverman opened up about her copyright infringement lawsuit against Sam Altman's OpenAI, which owns the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT. The lawsuit's defendants include OpenAI, L.P. and OpenAI GP, L.L.C, among other entities. The plaintiffs originally sued OpenAI for direct copyright infringement, vicarious copyright infringement, violating The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, unjust enrichment, violating the California and common law unfair competition laws, and negligence. The judge dismissed all the claims except direct copyright infringement and unfair competition, prompting the plaintiffs to file an amended lawsuit in March.

Stocks had a rough week, topped off with a pummeling Friday after the July jobs data came in weaker than expected. Until then, bad economic news was good news for the stock market, because it meant the Federal Reserve would start cutting interest rates sooner. On Thursday, a drop in U.S. manufacturing activity for July and a jump in initial jobless claims dragged down the market. Next week is light on economic data, so expect earnings reports and CEO commentaries to drive the market action. With the Fed, Apple earnings and the jobs report passing with flying colors this week, the runway to more gains looks a lot less cluttered. Still, we're here to guide our children in a compassionate way through difficult moments at all stages of development. As child psychologists, we've developed an acronym that can assist us all through this process, regardless of our child's age: H.E.L.P. Whatever their action, before you react, it's smart to stop and ask yourself: Where is their behavior coming from? An underdeveloped thinking brain, an overactive emotional brain, and a lack of perspective leads to chaos and poor decision-making. Or is my reaction a reasonable response to my child's behavior, like if my child yelled "I hate you," and my feelings are hurt?

Wall Street returned to its winning ways this week — and Nvidia 's blowout earnings report Wednesday night was a big reason why. Twenty-six of our 32 portfolio stocks have delivered their results this earnings season (we didn't own Abbott Labs at the time of its report). It was a muted week for macroeconomic data, but we did get a slightly better-than-expected January existing home sales report on Thursday. In the week ahead, two more Club names are set to report earnings before a market-moving economic update arrives Thursday morning. The two other reports of note are the January new home sales report on Monday and ISM Manufacturing report on Friday.

A hotter-than-expected consumer price index on Tuesday sent stocks reeling, with the Dow posting its biggest drop in a year. The three major averages posted gains for the fourth week in row, lifted by strong quarterly earnings results for most of the Big Tech companies and a strong jobs report. A weaker ADP Employment report on Wednesday provided no read-through to the monster January jobs report Friday. Here's what we're keeping an eye on in the coming week: 1. Earnings: It's another big earnings week head for the portfolio, with 8 more of our companies reporting. All three major averages posted gains for the third consecutive week, lifted by solid quarterly earnings and positive economic data. Earnings season ramps up next week, with five of the Super Six mega-cap stocks delivering results. Employment numbers are the most important economic data, with Friday's January nonfarm payrolls report carrying the most weight. The January ISM Manufacturing report on Thursday and December's factory orders report Friday are expected to show the sector still in contraction mode. Activist investor Ancora on Tuesday urged Disney to put Nelson Peltz on its board, days after Peltz and his firm, Trian, launched a proxy fight with the entertainment giant. "Mr. Peltz (or a qualified designee) would make a fantastic addition to Disney's Board." Trian oversees about $3 billion in Disney stock, but the overwhelming bulk of the shares is owned by Perlmutter, whom Disney laid off earlier this year. Trian is seeking more than two seats on Disney's board, which is populated by directors seen as loyal to Iger. Ancora owned more than 60,000 shares of Disney as of September, according to FactSet.

Barring individual victims from pursuing their own lawsuits against the Sackler family “raises serious constitutional questions,” the department argued. OxyContin’s commercial success helped the Sackler family earn billions of dollars and the family became known for philanthropy around the world. As the country’s opioid crisis worsened, attention shifted to the role played by Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. Many of the suits allege that the Sackler family knew of OxyContin’s addictive properties but, nevertheless, continued to promote the drug. The Supreme Court hearing comes at a time of devastating losses due to drug overdoses in the US.

The donor backlash has been driven by a Palestinian literary festival that was held on campus last month, before the Hamas terror attacks on Israel. UPenn leaders acknowledged well before the start of the Palestine Writes Literature Festival that the event would feature speakers with a history of making antisemitic remarks. “Jews have played an extraordinary role in the history and legacy of the University of Pennsylvania. Billionaire Ronald Lauder, another powerful financial backer of school, is threatening to do the same if more isn’t done to fight antisemitism. Jeff Smith, CEO and chief investment officer of Starboard Value, L.P., speaks at a panel discussion at the SALT conference in Las Vegas May 14, 2014. Smith's remarks at the 13D Monitor Active Passive Investor Summit came after Reuters revealed last week that Starboard had become a News Corp shareholder, a prelude to a potential shake-up at Murdoch's media empire. "We believe separate news and real estate assets could help unlock $7 billion or more in value," he added. Starboard, which has pushed for changes at companies ranging from Salesforce (CRM.N) to Darden Restaurants <DRI.N,> would struggle to shake up News Corp without Murdoch's consent. If News Corp separates its real estate assets, shareholders would benefit, Smith said.

Oct 12 (Reuters) - Simplify Asset Management plans to roll out three new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that rely on artificial intelligence rather than human beings to select portfolio holdings, adding to a nascent sub-sector that has so far delivered underwhelming results for investors. "A large portion of the investment community remains wary of putting their money into a product that depends on algorithms," Sohn said. On Tuesday, the company said it would invest $300 million to form a joint venture with $19 billion Adani Green Energy (ADNA.NS) to build solar and wind farms in the country. The latest tie-up ought to help Total to hit its target of having 100 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Adani Green Energy and Adani Total Gas (ADAG.NS), in which Total owned stakes of about 20% and 37% at the end of June, have lost about 50% and 80% of their market value since January, and are among the worst performing of the group’s nine core listed entities. Total’s green capacity targets may be more pressing than the risk of further Adani problems. Adani Green will contribute assets to the joint venture, it said in a statement, adding that the deal will help it achieve its target of having 45 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Sept 11 (Reuters) - Klaviyo is seeking a fully-diluted valuation of up to $8.4 billion in its initial public offering (IPO) in the United States, the marketing firm said on Monday, as it becomes the latest company to tap a growing wave of stock market listings. However, the company's proposed valuation is a climb-down from the $9.15 billion pre-money valuation at which Klaviyo last raised capital in 2021, reflecting a broader gloom in the technology startup ecosystem. Founded in 2012, Klaviyo helps store and analyze data for e-commerce brands that enables them to send out personalized marketing emails and messages to potential customers. Klaviyo posted 51% growth in revenue to $164.6 million for the three months ended June 30. The company is expected to debut in September, a busy month for stock market listings that could serve as a litmus test for other companies looking to go public.

China publishes rules to boost data security in money brokering

SHANGHAI, Aug 30 (Reuters) - China published rules on Wednesday aimed at boosting data security in the money brokering industry, five months after a disruption in data services caused two days of chaos in the country's $21 trillion bond market. Five financial watchdogs, including the central bank as well as forex and securities regulators, urged interdealer brokers to improve data and risk management, and safeguard data security. Interdealer brokers, when offering data services, "must not endanger national security, financial safety and public interest," the regulators said in a joint statement. Chinese regulators in March suspended the data feed business of money brokers, citing data security concerns, triggering a slump in bond trading turnover as many traders lost immediate access to real-time data. China has in recent years grown more concerned over data security and rolled out new laws and compliance requirements for companies.
