AdvertisementLike Woodman, millions of Americans travel abroad for medical procedures each year, saving anywhere from 40% to 90% on the services they receive. Medical tourism comes with risks; the American Medical Association recommends going only to medical facilities recognized by international accrediting bodies and following up testing with care at home. It's unclear, though, how many medical tourists visit accredited facilities, and there's still the question of whether all these tests are useful for someone who is seemingly in good health. Related storiesSince COVID-19 came into the picture, health screenings and extensive physicals have received some buzz. Taylor Swift performs on stage during during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at Anfield on June 13, 2024 in Liverpool, England. LONDON — Taylor Swift's record-shattering Eras Tour is continuing to supercharge consumer spending as it enters it U.K. leg, suggesting that the Bank of England may not be out of the woods yet in its fight against inflation. The Bank of England is expected to soon begin lowering its Bank Rate from a 16-year high of 5.25%, with all but two of 65 economists polled by Reuters anticipating a cut in August, while financial markets are pricing in September. However, a possible clash between one of Swift's August tour dates and a key inflation index day could skew the data enough to make the bank rethink its path, the analysts said. "A surge in hotel prices then could be material, temporarily adding as much as 30bps to services inflation (+15bps on headline)," Krishnan and Rossiter wrote.

It's also highlighted a bigger ethical debate in Silicon Valley: how fast companies should move when pushing out AI technology. Broadly speaking, the debate lies in whether you think that moving full-speed ahead on AI technology will save the world or you think the industry needs to slow down. As I read Nikhil Krishnan’s “A Terribly Serious Adventure: Philosophy and War at Oxford, 1900-1960,” I wondered how he would pull it off. Here was a scholar, determined to bring to life a school of thought (hard to do) that revolved around finicky distinctions in language (extremely hard to do). The “linguistic” or “analytical” turn in philosophy resisted grand speculations about reality and truth. Krishnan admits that even he had a hard time warming up to his subject when he first encountered it as a philosophy student at Oxford. That discrepancy is also a preoccupation of one of my favorite books this year, “The Rigor of Angels,” by William Egginton.

ORLANDO, Florida, Nov 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. high yield bond market is the dog that has rarely barked, never mind bitten, during the Federal Reserve's most aggressive interest rate-raising campaign in 40 years. The 'junk' bond market may also contain less junk than it used to. But changes in the composition of a leading high yield corporate bond index over recent years suggests this might be the case. "The high yield index is a higher quality index than in cycles past," reckons Bill Callahan, investment strategist at Schroders. It is now below 400 bps, and high yield bond investors are the most overweight since January, BofA's latest survey shows.

But the real reason she is being targeted now — 13 years later — is surely because of her courageous criticism of the intolerance and violence unleashed under Mr. Modi.
