The most decorated team in women’s soccer won a fifth Olympic gold medal at the Parc des Princes in Paris, defeating Brazil 1-0 in the final. Mallory Swanson’s second-half goal gave the US the hard-earned victory on Saturday, capping off a dream start to head coach Emma Hayes’ managerial tenure. Despite a late push, she could not help her side finally overcome a USWNT in a gold medal match. After a cagey first half of today’s final, Swanson finally found space beyond the back line to break open a deadlocked match. It was a sequence worth of winning a gold medal and a fine way to mark a player’s 100th cap. But now, with a gold medal tucked under her arm, she definitely has the cachet to make whatever changes she wants. Hayes led the U.S. to its fifth Olympic gold medal.

CNN —The US women’s soccer team qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with an unbeaten record after its 2-1 victory over Australia on Wednesday. The US was victorious in all three of its group games, allowing it to book its spot in the next round as Group B winner with nine points from nine available. Washington CNN —US women’s soccer legend Alex Morgan will not be on the team’s roster for the Olympic Games next month in Paris, a symbol of the changing of the guard going on inside the women’s national team. The 22-player roster, which includes 18 players going to Paris and four alternates, includes only eight players from the 2020 Olympics, which were held in 2021 in Tokyo, and 10 members of the 2023 World Cup team.
