CNN —More than a decade after he became the first former migrant worker to soar into space as a NASA astronaut, José Hernández reached another milestone this month. Hernández, an engineer, made history aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2009, the first shuttle mission sending two Latino astronauts into space. The film portrays Hernández’s perseverance as the space agency rejected Hernández’s astronaut applications 11 times before selecting him for the program in 2004. And it shows what a critical role Hernández’s family played supporting him along the way. Daniel Daza/PrimeIn a 2016 interview with CNN, Hernández described how important Adela was in his journey.

A Burger King worker has been given $400,000 in crowdfunding donations after going viral last year. The video showed Kevin Ford being given a paltry goody bag to celebrate his 27-year tenure. "Like most big corporations, they've kind of lost touch with their workers," Ford told TMZ last year. "I feel like the whole world lifted me up," Ford told Today in December. Burger King told PEOPLE that the video showed Ford receiving a "peer-to-peer reward in recognition of a short-term positive performance/experience."

Maryland and Missouri join 19 other states and the District of Columbia in legalizing recreational marijuana, while legalization proposals failed to pass in Arkansas, North Dakota and South Dakota. MarylandFollowing the passage of Maryland's Question 4, adults in the state will be allowed to possess up to 1.5 ounces, or two marijuana plants, beginning July 1, 2023. ArkansasVoters in Arkansas failed to pass Issue 4, which would have allowed for the purchase of up to an ounce of marijuana from licensed retailers. Marijuana legalization also failed to pass in the state when it appeared on ballots in 2018, losing by a margin of 41% to 59%.
