WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump supporter who was among the first rioters to breach the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has been convicted of plotting to kill FBI special agents who investigated him over his crimes at the Capitol. NBC News affiliate WBIR in Knoxville reported that the jury convicted Kelley on all three counts after just an hour of deliberation. Kelley will be sentenced in the murder plot case on May 7, one month after he is set to be sentenced on his Capitol case, on April 7. Kelley provided a list of about 37 members of law enforcement who worked on his Jan. 6 case, prosecutors alleged. Edward Kelley was the fourth rioter to breach the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The Oklahoma school district where a transgender student died this year after an altercation in a bathroom violated federal law by mishandling sexual harassment allegations, according to an investigation by the federal Education Department. The department’s Office of Civil Rights opened an investigation into Owasso Public Schools in March following a complaint from the Human Rights Campaign, the country’s largest LGBTQ advocacy organization. CNN —Researchers have uncovered links between the precursor to the world’s oldest writing system and the mysterious, intricate designs left behind by engraved cylindrical seals that were rolled across clay tablets about 6,000 years ago. Scholars consider cuneiform the first writing system, and humans used its wedge-shaped characters to inscribe ancient languages such as Sumerian on clay tablets beginning around 3400 BC. The writing system is thought to have originated from Mesopotamia, the region where the world’s earliest known civilization developed that’s now modern-day Iraq. “This gap in the origin story — where do the nonnumerical proto-cuneiform signs come from — was left unresolved,” Johnson said. Correlating seal motifs (left) with proto-cuneiform pictographs could help researchers decipher hundreds of the symbols whose meaning is still unknown.

A Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden worker's thumb was partially amputated after a bonobo attacked during morning feeding Friday, the zoo said. The bonobo bit through a protective mesh barrier as the primate care worker was giving food and medicine to the animals during morning rounds, the zoo said. The zoo emphasized that it happened "behind the scenes" at its Jungle Trails habitat, which it said last year is home to 10 bonobos. The Jungle Trails habitat was closed for the day but was scheduled to reopen Saturday, a zoo spokesperson said.
