Just a 25-minute drive east from the city center is Gokarna Forest Resort, a five-star luxury retreat and golf course embedded within 470 acres of protected sanctuary jungle, sheltering a rich array of wildlife. Though a golf course had been present since 1999, the development saw it blossom into the undulating 6,755 yard, 18-hole setup that sits as the crown jewel of the resort today. “The uniqueness of the golf course is what really inspires me, and I have been to at least 200 or 250 golf courses around the world. His father, Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, has climbed Everest nine times, and at age 19 became the youngest person to summit without bottled oxygen. His uncle Mingma Sherpa became the first South Asian climber to summit the 14 peaks in 2011. Despite his record-breaking achievement, Nima’s climbs did not attract big-name sponsors, and he relied on his father’s 14 Peaks Expedition company for funds and logistical support. More than 90 flights from Indian airports have received bomb threats in just over a week, including about 50 on Saturday and Sunday alone, according to local media reports. Bomb threats against airlines are taken especially seriously in India, which was rattled by a series of bombings and hijackings from the 1970s to 1990s. Two days later, the British air force dispatched a fighter jet to intercept an Air India Boeing 777 en route to London. Air India said it would consider legal action against those responsible and was cooperating with the authorities to identify the perpetrators. At least 27 people died in Nepal on Friday when a tour bus fell into a gorge and went into the Marsyangdi River in the central district of Tanahun. The bus, carrying tourists from Maharashtra State in the center-west of India, was en route to Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, from Pokhara, a popular tourist destination. Nepal gets a lot of Indian tourists, mostly families who arrive by road to visit major Hindu temples. Birendra Bahadur Shahi, a superintendent of police in Tanahun, said 16 others were injured in the crash. It took rescuers seven hours to lift the injured and the dead using ropes.

The agency also said that it was under the initiative of Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli, who issued a directive saying that all social networking sites should be treated equally. Oli became the prime minister last month after the collapse of the previous coalition government. The previous government had imposed the ban on TikTok in November last year, saying it was necessary to regulate the use of the social media platform because it was disrupting social harmony and goodwill and diffusing indecent materials. The government has also asked social media platforms companies to register in Nepal, open a liaison office, pay taxes and abide by the country’s laws and regulations. There were several exchanges of communication between the government and TikTok officials in the months leading to the lifting of the ban.

One person survived the Saurya Airlines crash, the Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement. The Saurya Airlines plane caught fire at the airport in Kathmandu, Nepal on July 24, 2024. The pandemic signified a “historic backslide,” according to Dr. Katherine O’Brien, director of the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biological at WHO. WHO and UNICEF’s 2023 immunization coverage report, released Sunday, is the world’s largest dataset on immunization trends for vaccinations against 14 diseases. It analyzed estimates from 185 countries and used a third dose of the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP3) vaccine — which is recommended for 1-year-olds — as the global marker for immunization coverage. The 2023 report also found HPV vaccine coverage in girls increased 7%, returning to near pre-pandemic levels. Analyzing immunization coverage in other areas of conflict is “a mixed picture,” O’Brien said.

Kathmandu, Nepal — A Nepali court sentenced a man who thousands believed was a reincarnation of the Buddha to 10 years in jail on Monday for child sexual abuse, a court official said. As a teenager, Ram Bahadur Bamjon had drawn international attention when in 2005 tens of thousands of people turned up to see the “Buddha Boy” sitting cross-legged under a tree in a dense forest in southeastern Nepal for nearly 10 months. Court official Sikinder Kaapar of the Sarlahi district court in southern Nepal said a judge had also ordered Bamjon, 33, to pay $3,750 in compensation to the victim. Bamjon could not be reached for comment by Reuters, but his lawyer, Dilip Kumar Jha, said he would appeal in a higher court. Bamjon was arrested at a house on the outskirts of Kathmandu in January.
