CNN —Lesbian Visibility Week, celebrated each year at the end of April, was first observed in California in 1990 and is marked around the world and in lesbian living rooms across America — including mine. Many laws have criminalized gay men but not women, leaving us in slightly safer territory. Gay men are also more likely to be victims of hate crimes and violence. Gay men might be criminalized, but gay women have long been targeted, sometimes in heinous ways that fly under the radar of the law, and which go unprosecuted. On this Lesbian Visibility Week, I am grateful both to be seen and to slip quietly under the radar, unnoticed.

Editor’s Note: In this appeal to Congress, more than 35 artists, activists, scholars and others call for funding for Ukraine. On territory that Russia occupies, it tortures Ukrainian citizens, kidnaps Ukrainian children and murders Ukrainian leaders. By fighting Russia alone, they protect Europe. By fighting a conventional war against a nuclear power, they are making nuclear proliferation and nuclear war less likely. Together we call upon Congress to do the right thing – right now.

Super Bowl LVIII was the most-watched television show in history, as an estimated 123.4 million people watched the Kansas City Chiefs rally in overtime to defeat the San Francisco 49ers. CBS Sports said that figure included viewers across all platforms and was up 7% from last year's 115.1 million average viewers, which was also the previous record. This year's game was the most-streamed Super Bowl in history with a record audience on Paramount+ , the network said. It added that the network saw its best postseason viewership since 1998. Read previewSuper Bowl advertisers have decades of datapoints telling them when it’s best to show up during the big game. But the presence of Taylor Swift is adding a strange new dimension to a lot of conventional beliefs about the optimal spot for an ad to appear. AdvertisementLike many other advertisers, Hellmann’s had no idea when they locked in their Super Bowl buys early last year that there’d be a media frenzy around the romance between Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Advertisers are already anticipating that Swift’s presence will drive more engagement for advertisers lucky enough to have booked the right spots, though it’s a bit of a crapshoot as there’s no guarantee when, or even if , Swift will make an appearance. There is also another spike in female viewership that happens during Super Bowl broadcasts.

NEW YORK (AP) — Budweiser is bringing back some familiar characters this year in its Super Bowl ad. Some advertisers are releasing ads ahead of Super Bowl 58 in the hope of capitalizing on the buzz that builds as the game approaches. CNN —Kate McKinnon almost wasn’t the only Weird Barbie on the block. Actress Saoirse Ronan said in a new interview that she almost made a cameo in last year’s “Barbie” movie and that she would have, like McKinnon, played a doll who’d survived a bout of overly rambunctious play. In July, when the “Barbie” movie first debuted in theaters, Gerwig first revealed she had approached Ronan and Timothée Chalamet to make “specialty cameos” in the film. Gerwig previously worked with both actors in 2017’s “Lady Bird” and 2019’s “Little Women.”Kate McKinnon as Weird Barbie in the "Barbie" movie. In particular, I continue to marvel at the performance of Margot Robbie, who played the titular heroine — Stereotypical Barbie — and who I think isn’t getting enough credit for holding the movie together. She must journey to the real world, leaving an army of other Barbies behind, to get back to a state of unquestioning bliss. She grudgingly takes Ken (a perfectly doltish Ryan Gosling) with her, and in the real world he discovers the concept of patriarchy. A movie called “Barbie,” and Barbie didn’t always feel like the main character. I also kept thinking about Robbie as Stereotypical Barbie.

Although the “Barbie” movie is a billion-dollar global hit, officials in Lebanon and Kuwait moved on Wednesday to ban the film, saying its content contradicts the conservative values of their countries. Unlike other movies that have been banned in the Middle East, “Barbie” does not feature any scenes that overtly portray same-sex relationships. The cast does feature L.G.B.T.Q. A Kuwaiti committee on cinematic censorship banned both “Barbie” and the horror film “Talk to Me” this week. Al-Subei’e told the news agency that foreign movies that run counter to Kuwait’s public ethics will often have scenes censored, but that movies that carry “alien concepts, message or unacceptable behavior” are fully banned.

CNN —Some might say Weird Barbies are made, not sold. Mattel, however, begs to differ. The toy company behind the iconic Barbie brand has announced a signature doll modeled after Kate McKinnon’s character from Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster “Barbie.” In the movie, McKinnon’s character helps send Margot Robbie’s Barbie on her journey. “Barbie” is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, which is owned by CNN’s parent company Warner Bros. The doll is one of seven products in an expanded collection stemming from the billion-dollar hit movie, including various Barbie and Ken dolls modeling outfits they wore on-screen and a Hot Wheels corvette set.

CNN —Ryan Gosling may or may not be your ideal Ken in the new “Barbie” movie, but one of the film’s casting directors has shared who else might have gotten the role. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Allison Jones — who cast the hit film along with Lucy Bevan — talked about who else might have joined Barbie in her dream house. Like the line of dolls the movie is based on, there are multiple Barbies and Kens portrayed by a diverse cast of actors. And that meant Bowen Yang, Dan Levy, and Ben Platt were out of the running to play Ken. “Simu Liu was dying to be a Ken, God bless him,” Jones said of the actor who was eventually cast as one of the Kens.

The new Barbie movie used so much pink paint on set that it caused an international shortage. Production designer Sarah Greenwood told Architectural Digest the "world ran out of pink." Greenwood told the magazine that constructing the set resulted in an international shortage of the fluorescent shade of Rosco paints. "The world ran out of pink," she told Architectural Digest. CNN —Ryan Gosling channeled his “Ken-ergy” to defend himself against those who think he’s “too old” to play doll Ken in the new “Barbie” movie. The origin of this silliness began back in April when the first “Barbie” movie trailer was released and a debate on social media ensued, with some users voicing their opinion that the 42-year-old actor appeared too “grown up” to play Ken. “If people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with,” Gosling said in a new GQ interview published on Wednesday in response to those skeptics. You never cared,” he said, adding that “if you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared Tuesday at his final White House press briefing, as he prepares to leave government next month following a half-century on the front lines of the world's gravest public health crises. “The idea that this may be very likely the last time I’m in that press briefing room is kind of sad. Things can’t go on forever," Fauci said in an interview earlier in the day with NBC News. Before he announced his plans to leave government, Fauci said he would not serve under another Trump administration. "What I would like to do is encourage and perhaps inspire younger people to get involved in science, medicine and public health," Fauci said.
(CNN) Marco Rubio hopes to sway voters interested in Chick-fil-A, Ram trucks, and Duck Dynasty. "Political campaigns are using that to their advantage." Rogan, a controversial figure who's popular on the right, attracted more attention from campaigns targeting Facebook ads than any other interest topic in the period analyzed by CNN. The targeting data shows a wide variety of approaches. But most people likely have no idea that they're seeing certain political ads because of their interests in a band or TV show, Woolley noted.
