"Even with a team of babysitters or support staff, the emotional and psychological weight of parenting often falls squarely on the single parent's shoulders," Wright said. She shared why Kardashian's struggles touch upon a difficulty many single moms face, no matter how much money they have. Single parents can feel even more acutely spread thin because they're doing it alone. That makes the single parent's job that much more challenging. "People do outsource every single part of parenting, and that has consequences for children," Wright said.

When you're a mega-star with a long list of gigs and shows, self-care can easily fall off of the to-do list; but not for Usher. "When is the last time you looked in a mirror and really looked at yourself?" "We would like to start as quickly as possible," he said of the buyback. Exceptional access would allow Kenya to ask for more than its limit of IMF funding. As of Oct. 5, the central bank said it had $6.9 billion in usable foreign exchange reserves, enough to cover around 3.7 months' worth of imports. The central bank held its main interest rate (KECBIR=ECI) at 10.5% on Oct. 3. Despite Kenya's debt pressures, the economy is set to grow 5.5% this year and around 6% in 2024, Thugge said, above the IMF forecasts for Sub-Saharan Africa of 3.3% and 4% respectively.

CNN —Opposites are said to attract, but the poles between Hailey and Justin Bieber couldn’t be further apart — at least sartorially. Was Hailey off to a sophisticated dinner and drinks, while Justin had just nipped out for a packet of M&Ms and some laundry detergent? Hailey, on the other hand, has worked to market herself as a modern-day It Girl, a title which unsurprisingly demands a captivating wardrobe. Justin and Hailey’s clashing ensembles sparked a thorny discussion on the semiotics of dressing as a pair. Had Justin committed to a pair of slacks or a button-down, his partner could have had her moment with no distractions.

How Canada’s Record Wildfires Got So Bad, So Fast

How Canada’s Record Wildfires Got So Bad, So FastWildfires in Canada have burned a staggering 25 million acres so far this year, an area roughly the size of Kentucky. With more than a month of peak fire season left to go, 2023 has already eclipsed Canada’s previous annual record from 1989, when over 18 million acres were scorched. Hot, dry conditions have fueled widespread wildfires, mostly in Canada’s boreal forests, since the spring, with some of the largest blazes burning in Northwest Canada and Quebec. A heat wave baked British Columbia and Alberta in mid-May, exacerbating several early wildfires. More than 100 times over the past three months, Canadian wildfires have grown sufficiently large and powerful to produce their own weather, kicking up giant thunderclouds known as pyrocumulonibus, and injecting smoke high into the atmosphere.

This week, CNN CEO Chris Licht was fired after a scathing profile was published in the Atlantic. In the profile, Licht details his own thoughts about how diversity should be defined in the media industry. In Alberta's profile, Licht claimed to be operating under his own idea of "diversity," one that does not include "virtue signaling." "I think 'Defund the police' would've been covered differently if newsrooms were filled with people who had lived in public housing," Licht continued. The diversity Licht did seem to value was geographic diversity, which can be a coded way of saying "not from the liberal coasts."

A trio of longtime executives have taken charge at CNN following the exit of Chris Licht. There's a moment in Tim Alberta's brutal profile of CNN's now-former CEO Chris Licht where Licht awkwardly takes a jab at his predecessor Jeff Zucker. The following Monday, as Licht attempted to quell growing calls for his ouster, Licht told CNN staff: "As I read that article, I found myself thinking, CNN is not about me. He will replace Patrick Njoroge, who is retiring after serving two terms as the central bank governor since 2015. In a voice vote, lawmakers adopted the report of the National Assembly's finance committee, which urged the house to back his appointment after vetting his suitability for the post. His predecessor, Njoroge, has maintained stable prices for most of his eight years at the helm. But the World Bank expects growth to edge up to 5.0% in 2023, underpinned by a recovery in agriculture. REUTERS/StringerNAIROBI, April 23 (Reuters) - Kenyan police have now exhumed the bodies of 47 people thought to be followers of a Christian cult who believed they would go to heaven if they starved themselves to death. Police near the coastal town of Malindi started exhuming bodies on Friday from the Shakahola forest. "In total, 47 people have died at the Shakahola forest," detective Charles Kamau told Reuters on Sunday. The leader of the church, Paul Mackenzie, was arrested following a tip-off that suggested the existence of shallow graves belonging to at least 31 of Mackenzie's followers. Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki said the entire 800 acre forest had been sealed off and declared a scene of crime.
Police began exhuming bodies on Friday, said Charles Kamau, a detective in the nearby town of Malindi, without giving further details. The leader of the church, Paul Mackenzie, was arrested following a tip-off that also suggested the existence of shallow graves belonging to at least 31 of Mackenzie's followers. Police said the 15 rescued worshippers had been told to starve themselves to death so they could meet their creator. Matthew Shipeta from Haki Africa, a human rights group, said he had seen at least 15 shallow graves in the forest. "Personally I have visited about 18 children's graves," Mikali told Citizen TV.
All 15 were members of the Good News International Church in the coastal county of Kilifi, police said. "In the process of rescuing the victims, four of them died," police said in an incident report. "They starved after being radicalised by a certain member of a church told them that their work in this world was done... and they were waiting to die and see their creator," he said on Citizen Television. In a March 23 affidavit, police said the parents had starved and suffocated the two boys on Nthenge's advice. Corcoran, an entrepreneur and longtime investor on ABC's "Shark Tank," cited herself an example. And on "Shark Tank," it leads her to seek out entrepreneurs who question themselves. "Everyone's got self-doubt," Corcoran said. It may even be a shared experience among "Shark Tank" investors. Disclosure: CNBC owns the exclusive off-network cable rights to "Shark Tank."
Did you celebrate yourself, or did it feel too good to be true? If you experienced the latter, you were likely dealing with imposter syndrome, "a perceived sense of being a fraud," according to Dora Kamau, a mindfulness and meditation teacher at Headspace. Imposter syndrome is a process that 9% to 82% of people experience, with the rate angling higher for communities of color, a study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found. Thankfully, you can process your emotions and boost your confidence through reciting affirmations to yourself and participating in other empowering practices, says Kamau. Here are a few positive affirmations that Kamau suggests saying to yourself whenever your inner-voice is making you feel small.
All of us in the private sector have a responsibility to offer a helping hand. Food insecurity is an issue that can impact nearly every aspect of people's lives. Business leaders across the country took the opportunity of the conference to make promises to help address the national hunger crisis. This is an example of how Shipt — and the private sector at large — can step in to help local communities and nonprofits address food insecurity and scarcity. A critical element toward achieving this goal is reauthorizing the Farm Bill, which would help prioritize healthy food access for low-income families.
Food stamps restrict shoppers to nonalcoholic beverages, cold food items, seeds and plants. Expanding payment options for low-income shoppers could help the delivery platforms lure low-income grocery shoppers away from Walmart.com WMT.N and Amazon.com , which also have food stamp payment options. Shipt shoppers will also be able to pay for orders with SNAP EBT in 2023. Target.com customers can make grocery purchases online with SNAP EBT and their deliveries are powered by Shipt. Shipt does not currently offer any WIC or TANF payment options.

Activists say that changing single-family zoning laws and taxing owners of vacant properties can help to create more affordable, accessible housing. Preventing gentrification through zoning and other housing regulationsKing Williams has seen the consequences of gentrification in urban Atlanta firsthand. Some cities are already starting to alter their residential zoning laws. Kate Brown (D) signed a law requiring Oregon cities with more than 1,000 residents to allow duplexes in areas that were previously zoned exclusively for single-family homes. Dedman said the way to protect residents from gentrification is to first decrease the number of properties that sit empty.
