The new AWS region in Taiwan will enable firms to capitalize on the cloud and "build with AWS technologies like compute, storage, databases, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence," said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of infrastructure services at AWS, in a statement. An AWS region is a physical location where data centers are clustered. An availability zone is an isolated and geographically separate location with one or more data centers with independent power, cooling, and physical security. AWS had opened a region in the Indonesia capital of Jakarta in December 2021.

Some Amazon Web Services employees are concerned about a large number of departures among its senior engineers. At last month's internal staff meeting for AWS, VP of infrastructure services Prasad Kalyanaraman answered an employee question about turnover among senior engineers, according to a transcript of the meeting obtained by Business Insider. It is one of the many challenges AWS employees are currently dealing with, alongside slowing growth and a more bureaucratic culture, as BI previously reported . As we've previously told Insider, attrition among AWS employees has declined in recent years and to suggest anything otherwise is inaccurate. Cases of West Nile virus are increasing in the U.S., with health officials across several states urging residents to take precautions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 43 states have reported West Nile virus infections this year. "The trends we are seeing in our West Nile virus tracking data are unprecedented," Colorado epidemiologist Rachel Herlihy said in a statement last month. West Nile virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental U.S., according to the CDC. There are no vaccines or treatments for West Nile virus in people.

Maryland detected a locally acquired case of malaria, the first in over 40 years, health officials said. Health officials maintain there is an "extremely low" risk of locally contracting malaria in the US. Someone in Maryland contracted malaria, and officials are scratching their heads as they grapple with the state's first local case of the disease in four decades. The Maryland Department of Health confirmed the case on Friday, saying the individual lives in the Washington, D.C., region and had not recently traveled internationally – a common flag for malaria cases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously reported similar, locally acquired malaria cases in Florida and Texas, calling the risk of catching the disease locally "extremely low in the United States."

BENGALURU, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd (KALN.NS)reported a near 11% rise in quarterly profit on improved demand during the festive season and said the ongoing wedding season is pushing sales higher. Demand picked up in the quarter during the festive season when Indians spend heavily on big-ticket items such as cars, electronic appliances, and jewellery. The Indian jeweller's consolidated net profit rose to 1.49 billion rupees ($18.02 million) for the third quarter that ended Dec. 31 from 1.35 billion rupees ($16.33 million) a year earlier. Revenue increased 13% to 38.84 billion rupees, boosted by sales at newly opened showrooms. Kalyan's earnings outshine its Tata Group-owned larger rival Titan Co Ltd (TITN.NS), which last week reported a surprise fall in profit.
