Ballot drop boxes in Portland, Oregon, and neighboring Vancouver, Washington, were set on fire early Monday morning, police said, just over a week out from Election Day. The Portland Police Bureau said an "incendiary device" was placed inside of a sidewalk ballot box in the Central City district. At around 4 a.m. local time, about a half-hour after the reported fire in Portland, police in Vancouver also responded to a ballot box fire. Earlier this month, the Vancouver bomb squad responded to reports of a "suspicious device" near a downtown ballot box, police said. The device was "safely removed" and the ballot box itself was "not compromised," according to a news release.

Tina Kotek wants to scrap a plan to implement tolls on large sections of two Portland-area interstates, she said Monday. Kotek sent a letter to the Oregon Transportation Commission on Monday saying the Regional Mobility Pricing Project for Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 should be halted, KGW-TV reported. Kotek’s letter came a few weeks after a survey found a majority of Oregon voters opposed the Regional Mobility Pricing Project tolls, KOIN-TV reported. A fallen tree branch brought the power line onto the top of an SUV, said Rick Graves, a spokesperson for Portland Fire and Rescue who was at the scene. Callers told dispatchers of at least one person and maybe the car on fire, victims lying prostrate, and a loose baby, Graves said. While there, she said a gas station employee on site, identified as Nigel Powers, ignored her multiple times, KGW reported citing court documents.
