AdvertisementCNBC anchors projected an air of mild panic about the news that Comcast would spin off the network. The media conglomerate announced it would create a new entity for most of its cable networks. CNBC anchors turned their signature irreverent style on themselves on Wednesday, as their parent Comcast became a headline in announcing plans to spin off the business news network along with many other cable assets. Analysts — including those featured on CNBC — did not hold back on Wednesday about what the spinoff means for the cable network. AdvertisementOne question for CNBC folks is whether they will maintain the prestige and workplace benefits that came with being part of Comcast.

Lenders often encourage federal student loan borrowers to enroll in automatic payments. "Unfortunately, autopay errors were one of the most widespread, basic and consequential servicer errors we saw this year," CFPB Student Loan Ombudsman Julia Barnard told CNBC. In some cases, borrowers had money pulled from their bank accounts despite never consenting to autopay, Barnard said. Other autopay users saw incorrect amounts taken or were charged multiple times in the same month. In March, one borrower told the CFPB that their student loan servicer took $6,897 from their account when they only owed $1,048.

Today, he is best associated with Tintagel Castle, where remains of a settlement dating back to the fifth century perch strikingly on an islet off the wild coast of Cornwall. Bettmann Archive/Getty ImagesFor Stoyle, it’s likely that the myth of Arthur has at least its roots in fact. This Arthur was played by Clive Owen in the 2004 film, “King Arthur,” alongside Keira Knightley as Guinevere. The sixth-century “Artognou stone," discovered in 1998, has linked Tintagel with King Arthur for some scholars, though others dismiss it. Of course, medieval history writers were fast and loose with the facts.

CNN —Lost luggage is one of the major woes of the modern travel era, with rates of mishandled bags still up since the start of the pandemic. But travelers wanting their bags back will still have to move fast – the shareable tracking option is currently only available for a week. In 2023, airlines lost an average of 6.9 bags per 1,000 passengers, according to SITA, which offers solutions for the aviation industry. That’s an improvement on 2022, which saw a whopping 7.6 bags lost per 1,000 passengers — but still well up on pre-pandemic numbers. In 2019, 5.6 bags were lost per 1,000 flyers.

But new research suggests that one English woman convicted of witchcraft and condemned to be hanged may have escaped the noose. Alice Molland – who has long held the tragic record of being the last woman in England to be hanged as a “witch” – was sentenced to death in 1685. In June 1685, Avis Molland – by now widowed – emerges in court records as an informant about a potential revolt, at a time when the Duke of Monmouth was attempting a rebellion against the king. Avis Molland died a free woman eight years later. Worland has spent 18 years unearthing victims’ details, and has successfully campaigned to have memorials to executed “witches” in Colchester and Chelmsford.

Venice, Italy CNN —It caused ripples of confusion among tourists and anger among locals, but the Venice entry fee for day-trippers is here to stay. The fee structure will be changed, as well – from a flat 5 euro ($5.40) in 2024 to a two-tier system. Visitors who pay the fee more than four days ahead of their visit will pay the 5 euro fee. The council has not said how it plans to enforce tourists using the bags assigned to them, however. Landlords have 120 days to register their properties after the date on which the city council approves the plans, assuming that it does.

Both companies see massive potential for the technology, with a grand vision for AR glasses to usurp smartphones as the next generation of computing. Microsoft has also invested in AR technology for well over a decade, launching its HoloLens headset for enterprise in 2016. While Snap and Meta have debuted AR prototypes, they're still years away from selling those devices to consumers. Snap similarly plans to invest in building out its ecosystem, renting its AR glasses to developers who commit to paying $99 a month for a year for the Spectacles. Watch the video as CNBC's Julia Boorstin tries Meta and Snap's augmented reality glasses and explores the future of this cutting-edge tech.

Zuckerberg's reveal of Orion late last month has triggered a level of enthusiasm that's unfamiliar in the metaverse. He showed off the gadget — a pair of black, thick-framed AR glasses — to the live audience before placing it on his face. In the meantime, Meta is looking to build on the success of its second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The smart glasses went viral on TikTok during the holiday shopping season, and sales exceeded both companies' expectations. Meta is also opening a pop-up shop to showcase the smart glasses and to get them in front of more consumers.

CNN —To say that there have been many twists and turns in the tale of the three-and-a-half-year cruise is something of an understatement. Villa Vie Odyssey initially set off from Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday night after a delay of around four months, but didn’t get very far. Villa Vie CEO Mike Petterson told CNN on Friday that the ship would remain in France for one day, before heading to Bilbao, Spain. Petterson previously indicated that the delayed departure was due to a longer than usual certification process. While the ship was built in 1993, it has been held to the standards of a new vessel, said Petterson.
