Gary Wang, a former executive of bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, who testified against founder Sam Bankman-Fried, attends his sentencing on fraud charges at the United States District Court in Manhattan in New York City, U.S., November 20, 2024. Wang was also ordered to forfeit $11 billion, the same as the other co-defendants. When given the opportunity to address the court, Wang said he was deeply sorry to all the customers and investors in FTX. Roos also noted that Wang was the first FTX employee to walk through the government's door but the last to be sentenced, as the FTX criminal proceedings come to a close. In March, Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to pay $11 billion — the harshest punishment from Judge Kaplan.

Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday comes as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear a challenge to a similar law in Tennessee, which may ultimately determine whether all such state laws around the country can be enforced. The plaintiffs argued that the law discriminated on the basis of sex by prohibiting certain treatments based on the patient’s sex. Circuit Judge Michael Brennan, writing for the majority, rejected both arguments. CNN —Donald Trump believes presidents have almost absolute power. In his second term, there will be few political or legal restraints to check him. It’s not guaranteed that just because Trump has massive power he will spurn constitutional checks and balances. No other president has come into office armed with a Supreme Court ruling that grants significant immunity to presidents for official acts. Attempts to prosecute Trump’s political foes on spurious grounds, meanwhile, could theoretically see mass resignations of Justice Department staff.

Four of them, including Niroula and Garcia, were charged with murder, conspiracy, grand theft and other crimes, court records show. Sometime in middle school Sam began to think more systematically and globally about ethical obligations. While he was still in high school, Sam started to think hard about the implications of utilitarianism for how he should live his life. There is great nobility in his indifference to his own happiness, but there is also great sadness for us as parents. After everything came apart in November 2022, Sam shared a lot of things with his dad and me that he had never said before. In the end, I am in no position to argue him out of his subjective experience of life.

I can offer some firsthand observations on Caroline's state of mind in the immediate aftermath of the FTX collapse. At that point, she set up a makeshift home office and started having multiple calls with the new FTX management. New York CNN —A year ago, Caroline Ellison was preparing to testify against her former boss and ex-boyfriend in one of the biggest fraud trials in US history. Ellison, who ran Alameda, pleaded guilty to seven federal counts of fraud and conspiracy shortly after FTX’s collapse. A jury last year convicted former crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried on multiple counts of federal fraud and conspiracy. Over three days on the stand, Ellison, who is 29, repeatedly reinforced that throughout her years at Alameda, the buck stopped with Bankman-Fried. While sentencing is entirely up to Judge Kaplan’s discretion, legal experts say it’s highly unlikely Ellison will end up in prison.
