The Title 42 pandemic-era policy allows U.S. authorities to quickly expel migrants on public health grounds and is set to expire May 11. After that date, those who cross the border illegally will be held to a higher initial asylum standard—which most migrants are expected not to pass—and could be quickly deported from the U.S.
