CNN —Police in Peru have arrested a man caught trying to leave the country with 320 tarantulas, 110 centipedes and nine bullet ants strapped to his body. The insects were packaged inside plastic containers and bags strapped to the man's abdomen. SERFOR/ReutersA search revealed hundreds of insects packaged inside ziplock bags strapped to his abdomen, according to the statement. Tarantulas are a threatened species, Walter Silva, a wildlife specialist at SERFOR, explained in the statement. SERFOR officials display the confiscated insects.

Seven of the jurists’ resignations are effective August 31, 2025, while Aguilar will leave office on November 30. The slate of resignations heightens tensions between Mexico’s Supreme Court and the ruling bloc, increasing the risk of a constitutional crisis as Congress and the presidency remain at odds with the judiciary over the reform. CNN —A Florida woman was found guilty of second-degree murder Friday after authorities said she zipped her boyfriend up in a suitcase and left him for dead back in 2020. Sarah Boone, now 47, told authorities her boyfriend got trapped in a suitcase and died during a game of hide-and-seek, court records show. Boone also testified she thought Torres could get out of the suitcase, the affiliate said. She testified in her own defense for almost five hours, CNN affiliate WESH reported. Boone’s attorney said they were very disappointed following the verdict, while the family of Torres was emotional and declined to speak with the media, CNN affiliate WESH reported.

Toledo, a 78-year-old economist who holds a doctorate from Stanford University, governed the Andean nation between 2001 and 2006. Peruvian former President Alejandro Toledo was convicted of taking bribes from Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht and sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison on Monday. During the year-long trial, Toledo denied the money-laundering and collusion charges. The sentence was announced in a room set up in a small Lima prison where Toledo has been detained since last year. Prosecutors relied on testimony from former Odebrecht executive Jorge Barata as well as Toledo's ex-collaborator Josef Maiman, who said Toledo received bribes.
