AMMAN, Jordan — A gunman was dead and three policemen injured after a shooting near the Israeli embassy in neighbouring Jordan, a security source and state media said on Sunday. Police shot a gunman who had fired at a police patrol in the Rabiah neighbourhood of Amman, state news agency Petra reported, citing public security, adding investigations were ongoing. Jordan’s government communications minister, Mohamed Momani, described the shooting as a terror attack that targeted public security forces in the country. Jordanian police had earlier cordoned off an area near the heavily policed embassy after gunshots were heard, witnesses said. Police had called on residents to stay in their homes as security personnel searched for the culprits, a security source said.

Archaeologists led by Dr. Pearce Paul Creasman, executive director of the American Center of Research, unearthed the ancient tomb. Exploring Petra, a world wonderWithin the tomb beneath the Treasury, archaeologists found a ceramic vessel resembling the Holy Grail. Only a handful of tombs uncovered in Petra in the past several decades have been found with untouched burials, Creasman said. CNN —A 21-year-old Yazidi woman has been rescued from Gaza where she had been held captive by Hamas for years after being trafficked by ISIS. Fawzia told CNN that she has been returned to Iraq after enduring years of captivity. Over the next few years, Fawzia was trafficked to different locations across several countries. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller confirmed that the US helped evacuate Fawzia from Gaza. Here’s a look at Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities and the defensive systems employed by Israeli and other forces in the region. The Shahab-3 is the foundation for all Iran’s medium-range ballistic missiles using a liquid propellant, according to Patrick Senft, a research coordinator at Armament Research Services (ARES). But analysts point out that almost all ballistic missiles reach hypersonic speed during their flights, especially as they dive towards their targets. Some 180 ballistic missiles had been launched from Iran against Israel and intercepted in the sky across Israel on October 1, 2024. CNN —European travelers visiting the UK without a visa will soon be required to pay a £10 (around $13) waiver fee. This will be extended to include most other nationals, including those from the US but excluding Europeans, in November.
