A series of fortuitous eventsWhen the train arrived in Paris, Erin and her seat neighbor went their separate ways, and Erin figured she’d never see him again. It’s called the Generator, and it has a great rooftop bar.’ And I love rooftop bars, so I remembered that.”Erin returned to the US, and she quickly lost touch with her train friend. Jordan figured the reviews were decent, the prices OK – and the rooftop bar looked appealing. “Then, that night, there was a party, an organized event on the rooftop,” Erin recalls. By then, fall had arrived, and Jordan’s summer stint at the rooftop bar was ending.

Many people consume alcohol to relax and relieve stress, which are some of the top reasons people travel, too. How is sober travel discussed on TikTok? Sentiment in the past year shows that among social media interactions 32% is positive, 38% is neutral and 30% is negative. The ranking, however, isn't a list of countries where alcohol sales are banned — places like Brunei, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Costa Rica ranked high on the list of "sober travel" destinations, in part, because of its outdoor activities and national parks.

The deal reportedly includes a player option for the 2025-26 season, giving James, 39, control over his future after next season. James, a four-time NBA MVP, also tops the all-time playoff scoring leaderboard with 8,162 points. Last season, he also became the first player to be selected for 20 All-Star appearances, surpassing the record he had jointly held with Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Ogg and her partner – Olivia Jordan – do not share a last name, and each had to present identification to vote. The incident comes as the county – a Democratic stronghold that includes Houston – remains under scrutiny from Republican state officials. Just last year, the county’s election office was dismantled and its responsibilities shifted to the county clerk and county tax assessor-collector under a law approved by the GOP-controlled state Legislature. Ogg, who faces a competitive primary Tuesday, said it’s the job of election officials to protect the integrity of voting. “I was shocked when they pushed it back on the voter.”“My partner wasn’t trying to commit fraud,” Ogg added.

Israel has deployed overwhelming aerial firepower since the Oct. 7 attack, which saw Hamas gunmen burst out of the Gaza Strip, killing 1,400 Israelis and taking 239 hostages. Israeli airstrikes hit a crowded refugee camp in the Gaza on Tuesday, killing at least 50 Palestinians and a Hamas commander. In the 2008 Gaza war, Hamas rockets had a maximum range of 40 km (25 miles), but that had risen to 230 km by the 2021 conflict, he added. The plan offers Israel peace treaties with full diplomatic ties in exchange for a sovereign Palestinian state. Another unknown factor is how House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan – who spent much of the last three weeks running for speaker – will return to the scene. A source familiar with Johnson’s thinking told CNN, “He believes it’s a fact-finding mission. GOP Rep. Jen Kiggans, who represents a Virginia district Biden won in 2020, told CNN, “We have so much work we need to get done including these appropriations bills. I don’t think so,” GOP Rep. Mike Garcia, who represents a competitive district in California, told CNN of the inquiry. House Republicans have not held an impeachment inquiry hearing since their first one on September 28, where expert witnesses brought in by Republicans acknowledged they did not yet have the evidence to prove the accusations leveled against the president.

Jim Jordan again failed to win the speakership during the third round of voting. There were 25 House Republicans who voted for someone other than Jordan – a higher number of GOP votes against him than in the first two failed votes in a sign that opposition to his bid is growing. In the first round of voting, 20 House Republicans voted for someone else. In the second round, that number rose to 22. Here's are the Republicans who did not vote for Jordan in the third round, and who they voted for instead:

Jordan on Wednesday condemned the death threats, saying “it’s just wrong.”“It should never happen,” Jordan said as he left his office Wednesday night. Womack derided what he called the “attack, attack, attack” tactics of Jordan allies against his Republican opponents. “Frankly, just based on what I’ve been through – I can only speak to myself and what my staff has been through over the last 24 or 48 hours – it is obvious what the strategy has been: Attack, attack, attack. Hours later, the president and his national security team were not confident enough to draw a final determination absolving Israel of responsibility. Had the early evidence examined by the president’s team pointed in the other direction, the White House would have been more inclined to reconsider the trip. But during a refueling stop in Germany on the way home from Israel, Biden told reporters on Air Force One that he had spoken by phone with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Advisers had appeared determined to reorient expectations before Biden had even arrived in Israel, saying that showing the powerful visual of American solidarity with Israel was a major goal of the trip. One adviser put it simply: Biden sent a “strong message to Israel, which was the purpose of it.”

As of now, neither House Majority Leader Steve Scalise nor Rep. Jim Jordan – the two declared GOP candidates in the race – have locked down 217 votes, the necessary number to be elected speaker by a majority vote of the full chamber. The uncertain vote math has raised questions over how and when the GOP majority will be able to elect a new speaker, particularly as infighting continues to roil House Republican ranks. “I’d put it at 2%,” he said when asked by a reporter what the chances are there will be a new House speaker by Wednesday. After his removal as speaker in a historic vote last week, McCarthy announced he would not run again for the post. Read more about the race for House speaker here.

House Republicans are set to nominate a new speaker Wednesday, more than a week after the historic ouster of California Rep. Kevin McCarthy, as the chamber has been thrust into an unprecedented standstill. Two candidates have formally announced their bid for the speakership – House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio. But with a razor-thin GOP majority in the chamber, whether either can get the votes needed to secure the gavel remains to be seen. The rule change, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy, a Texas Republican, appears to have strong support in the conference. Still, McCarthy told reporters Tuesday evening that he instructed members of his conference not to nominate him.

Trump, the front-runner of the GOP presidential primary, reportedly discussed sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines – including the number of warheads they routinely carry and how close they can get to Russian submarines without being detected – to an Australian businessman. Earlier this week, the House ousted Kevin McCarthy – a stunning scene put in motion by a handful of far-right, MAGA lawmakers and one that marked the first time in history that the maneuver has been used to successfully oust a House speaker. Trump himself considered filling the role of speaker after being nominated by Texas Rep. “I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress,” Trump told Fox News Digital on Thursday. Trump is still considering a Tuesday visit to the Capitol, timed to when the GOP conference is set to hold a forum for the Speaker candidates.

The House is without a speaker, the person who, according to the Constitution, is required to be its leader. For as long as the House is trying to find a new speaker, it’s unable to do much of anything else. What happened to the last House speaker? Rep. Kevin McCarthy had been House speaker since January, when he won the gavel after 15 rounds of balloting. McHenry booted Pelosi and former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Marlyand out of offices they kept in the Capitol building.

In fact, the only two years the Bulls didn’t win the title was when Michael Jordan tried his hand at baseball. However, speaking on his former Bulls teammate Stacey King’s podcast ‘Gimme the Hot Sauce’ on Friday, Pippen described Jordan as a “horrible player.”“I’ve seen Michael Jordan play before I came to the Bulls. “Michael Jordan was the greatest to ever put on shoes and play in our game. The way LeBron James plays, Michael Jordan was never asked to play that way because I took that away from him. “And there’s no game that I would ever play in and pick LeBron James over Michael Jordan.

ZURICH, April 24 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Swiss government intervention to save Credit Suisse (CSGN.S) from collapse last month may have avoided a financial market storm. SWISS “TRINITY” QUESTIONThe rescue of Credit Suisse has other consequences. The Swiss Bankers Association has called for an independent inquiry, and lawmakers gave a symbolic thumbs-down to the rescue of Credit Suisse on April 12. A Senate Finance Committee report found last month Credit Suisse had violated a 2014 deferred prosecution agreement with U.S. authorities by continuing to help rich Americans dodge taxes. Switzerland’s parliament on April 12 rejected a Credit Suisse rescue package that included 109 billion Swiss francs in financial guarantees.
