He criticized the functionality of the app and said it will suffer without a mass of Black users. “It feels like a very welcoming, safe space,” said Pariss Chandler, the organizer of Black Tech Twitter and the founder of the recruitment platform Black Tech Pipeline.

Investment firm JAT Capital sent a scathing letter to the board of the new Bed Bath & Beyond on Friday saying it has refused to answer questions from shareholders and is engaging in what the investment firm called unprecedented "poor behavior." Earlier this month, JAT called on Beyond to fire Johnson. In its letter, dated Friday, JAT questioned why Johnson's board seat was removed after his ouster and said it was an attempt to weaken "shareholders ability to have a say." JAT called on Beyond's board to answer its questions, once and for all, and for everyone from vendors to sell-side analysts to demand more transparency. The actions cited below which the Board has taken in the last 60 days appear to be to the detriment of the company and shareholders," the letter states.

The new Bed Bath & Beyond announced Monday its CEO, Jonathan Johnson, is immediately stepping down from his position just days after activist hedge fund JAT Capital called for his ouster. He led the company through its acquisition of Bed Bath & Beyond earlier this year and its corporate name change to Beyond Inc. , which took effect Monday. David Nielsen, Beyond's president and a former Payless ShoeSource executive, has taken over as interim CEO while the board undergoes a search for a permanent candidate. Beyond said Johnson's departure "follows mutual agreement" between him and the board to transition the company to new leadership, but the move came on suddenly. The company and Johnson didn't immediately return a request for comment seeking additional information.

"So the customer can expect a breadth and depth of products they haven't seen before." The strategy behind the rebrandOverstock acquired Bed Bath & Beyond because of the retailer's strong branding and cult-like following in the hopes it could revive its top and bottom lines. "We're self aware enough to know that nobody, not even my children, would put 'registered at Overstock.com' on their wedding announcement, baby announcements, but they will put 'registered at Bed Bath & Beyond' on both those announcements. But he noted Overstock's launch of Bed Bath & Beyond in Canada has so far been positive. "The Canadian customer is eager to buy from Bed Bath & Beyond.

Overstock.com's CEO told NBC News he was always jealous of Bed Bath & Beyond's iconic name. Overstock.com, led by CEO Jonathan Johnson, first bought Bed Bath & Beyond's digital assets in June after it went bankrupt earlier this year. With that purchase, Overstock has adopted Bed Bath & Beyond's brand image in place of its own — as of Tuesday, Overstock.com is out, and BedBathandBeyond.com is back in the game. "We've looked at Bed Bath and Beyond jealously for several years," Johnson told NBC News. The relaunched website allows customers to use up to $50 of their rewards points from old Bed Bath & Beyond accounts.

Brought back to lifeJohnson promised newness blended with familiarity for Bed Bath & Beyond customers in the latest digital-only version of the retailer. “It will have the same great bed, bath and kitchen items but it will also have a much bigger beyond,” he said. Fans of Bed Bath & Beyond’s 20%-off a single item “Big Blue” coupon will be somewhat disappointed that it will not be resurrected. “I guess what I would say about the coupon is that if you like Bed Bath & Beyond coupons in the past, you will like new Bed Bath & Beyond mobile app we will be rolling out with launch in US,” said Johnson. Bed Bath & Beyond“We’ll still be offering coupons even if they’re not as large as the 20% coupon that people expected and frankly demanded from Bed Bath & Beyond,” said Johnson.

"We've long liked the Bed Bath and Beyond name, but we didn't like the stores, the inventory, so don't expect stores from us." Before the Bed Bath & Beyond bankruptcy, Overstock thought that a rebrand would take years and potentially hundreds of millions of dollars, according to Johnson. Instead, Overstock company was able to buy Bed Bath & Beyond's name and customer data for $21.5 million at a bankruptcy auction. Overstock already has a new Bed Bath & Beyond website in Canada, and it plans to go live with a U.S. website in August. Once a storied retailer, Bed Bath & Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April after struggling for years with dwindling sales and a failed merchandising strategy.

Overstock.com acquired Bed Bath & Beyond's brand and digital assets for $21.5 million. CEO Jonathan Johnson said the 20-year-old Overstock brand was overdue for an overhaul. Bed Bath & Beyond's Canadian website has already been refreshed with the names of both brands. The Bed Bath & Beyond brand we think will be such a brand." Johnson said the additional Bed Bath & Beyond shoppers — who accounted for more than $1 billion in sales last year — will triple Overstock's existing customer base.

Bed Bath & Beyond maintains strong brand awareness, Johnson said, despite mismanagement and eventual bankruptcy. "We'll do this transition slowly where the Overstock customer will come to the new website and will recognize it, but so will the Bed Bath & Beyond customer. "One thing that Bed Bath & Beyond customers will realize is that our non-coupon price is really good. The new Bed Bath & Beyond website is set to be relaunched in Canada within the next week, with a subsequent rollout of a website, mobile app and loyalty program in the U.S. expected in the coming weeks. Overstock shares are up almost 60% so far this year.

Soon, Overstock.com will become Bed Bath & Beyond — at least in digital form. Overstock, which last week paid $21.5 million to acquire the bankrupt retailer’s intellectual property, said on Wednesday that it would start operating its website under the Bed Bath & Beyond name. Company executives plan to eventually bring back Bed Bath & Beyond’s popular wedding registry. As Overstock folds the bankrupt retailers’ assets into its own operations, it is considering renaming its business entirely, said Jonathan Johnson, the company’s chief executive. It might settle on Bed Bath & Beyond, he added, but other names are being considered, too.

Overstock.com is going all in on failed retailer Bed Bath & Beyond. It will relaunch the Bed Bath & Beyond website in Canada within the next week, followed by a rollout of a website, mobile app and loyalty program in the U.S. "weeks later." "Bed Bath & Beyond is an iconic consumer brand, well-known in the home retail marketplace," Overstock CEO Jonathan Johnson said in a statement. Overstock will not acquire any brick-and-mortar Bed Bath stores as part of the deal. A number of bidders have expressed interest in Buy Buy Baby's stores but it remains unclear if any will be bought and kept open.

"But if it gets noticed, the flight attendant will have to speak with their manager." This made me realize that there's so much we don't notice, or even know, when it comes to the job of a flight attendant. Flight attendants sometimes live together in crash padsFor some flight attendants, always being on the go doesn't warrant wanting to pay rent at an apartment that you'll hardly use. Williams said there's such a thing as flight attendant crash pads, where you split rent with a group of other flight attendants near the airport. You can't become a flight attendant overnightUnlike some jobs where you can submit your resume, go through minimal training, and start immediately, being a flight attendant requires a decent amount of training.
Executives largely shrugged off a new 1% tax on stock buybacks as the cost of doing business. Even with the 1% tax, stock buybacks are the preferred way to return cash to shareholders, Mr. Krone said at a conference in February. Stock repurchases by Berkshire and the publicly traded companies it owns benefited investors, he wrote in the Feb. 25 letter. For one, share repurchases typically don’t commit them to continuing to buy shares, and offer flexibility on timing. “We only really consider share repurchases when we have an attractive repurchase price,” the CFO said.

A new corporate tax on stock buybacks hasn’t worried finance chiefs enough for them to rethink their strategy. For Bolingbrook, Ill.-based Ulta Beauty Inc., a maker of beauty products, the impact of the tax will be minimal, finance chief Scott Settersten said. The company’s board in March authorized a new buyback program that enables Ulta Beauty to repurchase up to $2 billion in shares. It is set to be levied on net buybacks, meaning total shares repurchased minus new shares issued during the year.
