The largest U.S. bank detailed how Epstein allegedly funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments and loans to a former U.S. Virgin Islands governor and his wife. The territory in a separate filing cited a 2011 email from a senior JPMorgan executive about suspicious cash withdrawals by Epstein. The filing containing the U.S. Virgin Islands accusations was more than 680 pages. The U.S. Virgin Islands also failed to show that the bank committed obstruction, JPMorgan said.

Court filings show how Jeffrey Epstein exerted power in the US Virgin Islands, two of which he owned. A financier worth hundreds of millions of dollars, Epstein owned two islands in the US Virgin Islands (there are roughly 50 islands overall). He had donated generously to Democratic politicians from the US Virgin Islands for years. With the assistance of the US Virgin Islands' first lady, Epstein navigated the territory's political waters unscathed. The court records show that, at least in the US Virgin Islands, he exerted influence with little friction.

Days after de Jongh sent the tuition bill to Epstein, she sent him another email about updated language for a sex offender registration bill, per JPMorgan's filings. De Jongh was first lady of the Virgin Islands between 2007 and 2015. Meanwhile, the firm is suing one of its former executives, Jes Staley, alleging that he knew about Epstein's sex trafficking but hid his crimes to keep him as a client.
