Echoing well-trodden disinformation that has infected the U.S. presidential election, pop icon Janet Jackson said she has heard Vice President Kamala Harris is not Black. Jackson is quoted as saying during the interview in her adopted hometown of London. The author wrote that she responded with a correction, telling Jackson that Harris does have Indian heritage but is also Black. Father Donald J. Harris, an economist and Stanford University professor emeritus, was born in Jamaica and is Black. "I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem," Jackson is quoted as saying.

☆ Astros star José Altuve takes off his shoe to protest call by umpire

In Tuesday's 9th inning of the Padres-Astros game, Altuve appeared to foul a ball off his left foot. However, umpires ruled the ball never hit his foot and Altuve was subsequently thrown out at first base. The Padres and Astros each had costly wild pitches, great defensive plays, clutch hits and plenty of frustration with the umpires. Replays seemed to show the ball missed Profar, Profar appeared to be upset that he wouldn’t have the chance to bat and the Astros bench couldn’t believe the call. As the umpires walked off the field, there was plenty of chirping and chatter directed at them by both teams.

AP —Tito Jackson, one of the brothers who made up the beloved pop group the Jackson 5, has died at age 70. “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson, is no longer with us. The Jackson 5 included brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael. Born on Oct. 15, 1953, Toriano Adaryll “Tito” Jackson was the least-heard member of the group as a background singer who played guitar. Michael Jackson died at age 50 on June 25, 2009.

CNN —I can’t recall a recent baseball story that has captured the public imagination like the current one involving Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Shohei Ohtani, his former translator Ippei Mizuhara and gambling. That said, assuming Ohtani has done nothing wrong, America’s pastime will emerge from this situation mostly unscathed. Ohtani stalls at second base after hitting a double during the first inning of a game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Yes, one team is favored to win, but we don’t know that team will win for sure.
