CNN —Donald Trump is invoking a vision of an extreme new White House term that would transform America and rock the world. And Vice President Kamala Harris has only three weeks to avert it, as she struggles to restore momentum in a neck-and-neck race to Election Day. Supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris listen to her speak during a rally at Ripon College, in Wisconsin, on October 3. With the nation in such a sour mood, Harris’ incumbency as vice president is a liability. His post underscored what Harris represents for those who fear the very real prospect of Trump’s return.

AdvertisementShould Harris select Walz, it'd indicate her intent to compete hard in the key battlegrounds of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. But even when Biden was still in the race, Walz zeroed in on Vance. Walz then described both Vance and Trump as "robber barons" who have done more harm than good to the Midwest. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to select her running mate ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

Harris opens up new potential paths to victorySince entering the race, Harris has shown momentum in early polling. This became worrisome for the Biden campaign as warning signs flashed in states like Virginia and New Hampshire. The positive early polling is a great sign for the vice president, but it isn't the only metric that shows momentum. Trump's pick for vice president makes things interestingVice presidential picks are far from guaranteed to help a presidential hopeful win a state. With Biden out of the race, Democrats will likely seek to tie the election — anchored by Harris' candidacy — to the party's future.

New York CNN —Earnings season is in full swing, and that means investors get a chance to hear from multinational companies about the state of the global economy. Some of the United States’ biggest companies are in the hot seat to answer questions about the economy, and where it could be headed. Like the rest of the US, companies are watching whether the economy could still tip into a recession as interest rates hover around a 23-year high. Achieving a soft landing, or a situation in which inflation comes down without an economic downturn, looks likely, some companies said. According to the UK government’s own estimates, the checks — including physical inspections from April — will cost British businesses about £330 million ($419 million) annually and increase food inflation by about 0.2 percentage points over three years.

Europe has required new airplanes to collect 25 hours of cockpit voice recordings since 2021. FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said the change will "give us substantially more data to identify the causes of incidents." After one runway incident, the NTSB said the cockpit voice recordings in both planes were overwritten and not recovered because the devices record only two hours. "More data will not only help identify causes but better enable operators to address any safety deficiencies," Homendy said. When cockpit voice recorders were first implemented in 1966, they could only record 30 minutes, the FAA said.

The trial with 529 volunteers focused on a heart condition known as preserved ejection fraction, or HFpEF, where heart muscles stiffen and draw in less blood, mainly affecting overweight people. HFpEF accounts for about half of heart failure cases, with symptoms including shortness of breath and swelling of extremities. Showing specific medical benefits is crucial for Novo's push to move Wegovy beyond its image as a lifestyle drug. It is unclear, though, what conclusions regulators and physicians will draw from the STEP HFpEF results because other heart failure treatments are emerging.
