And by the way, I do believe that President Trump has the ability to pick some really, really good people. We've seen what they've done to President Trump, we've seen the attacks that they continue to go after him with. That's - that’s being taken completely out of context. And President Trump hasn't been the one that weaponized the DOJ to go after his political enemies. I think that's a pretty controversial pick, from whatever pronoun that he or he - he or she decides to use.

For nearly a decade, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has been working to enforce oversight over Navient, a major student-loan company. Warren and some of her Democratic colleagues were concerned that the company was not properly managing student-loan borrowers' payment options, causing them to accumulate unaffordable student debt. However, it released an accountability framework in December that outlined enforcement actions it would take should servicers harm borrowers, including fining servicers and transferring borrowers to better-performing servicers. For example, MOHELA was the first servicer to be hit with a $7 million fine last October for failing to send on-time billing statements to over 2 million borrowers. Terminate MOHELA's contract and put loan services on notice: we will not tolerate your negligence and exploitation; we will not let you profiteer off vulnerable student borrowers."

A number of Democratic lawmakers are planning to participate in a series of counter-programming events on Wednesday instead of attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress. It’s the latest example of how Democrats remain divided over Israel’s handling of its war with Hamas. Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, a Washington state Democrat, is expected to deliver opening remarks at the event, according to an advisory shared with CNN. Approximately 80 House Democrats and at least six Democratic senators are expected to skip Netanyahu’s speech on Wednesday, according to sources and public statements reviewed by CNN. House Democratic leadership has given their members room to make their own decisions about whether to attend the speech.

House Democratic leadership has given their members room to make their own decisions about whether to attend the speech. Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray, a Washington state Democrat, also declined to preside over the speech, leaving Senate Foreign Relations Chair Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland, to preside, a source familiar told CNN. “I’m not attending the Netanyahu address because I don’t want to condone his behavior over the last 10 months,” Jacobs told CNN. “This is a war criminal that nobody, not a single one of our elected officials should be meeting with Netanyahu,” JVP communications director Sonya Meyerson-Knox told CNN.

Some Democrats have called for a mini-primary, which would allow potential Harris challengers to make their case ahead of an open convention in August. Sen. Joe Manchin, seen by some as a possible rival to Harris, ruled out running himself, but also said Democrats shouldn't rush to rally around a candidate.

Read previewWithin minutes of Joe Biden dropping out, the wheels were already in motion in both the Democratic and Republican parties. All of it centered on one person: Vice President Kamala Harris, Biden's endorsed heir apparent. The Trump campaign released a statement on Sunday criticizing Biden and Harris as Trump himself focused on mocking Biden. "Kamala Harris is just as much of joke as Biden is," the Trump campaign's statement said. But if that suddenly changes, two dozen leading Democratic politicians and operatives told CNN, they can’t realistically see this ending any other way. Still, it’s an idea some Harris backers support, doubting that anyone serious would challenge her, as much chest puffing as there is behind the scenes. Multiple Democratic members of Congress who have called for Biden to go declined on Friday when asked by CNN if they were ready to say they want Harris to be the nominee. “I do believe it has to be the vice president. Washington CNN —President Joe Biden was bracing for a week of political onslaught. When gunshots rang out at a Donald Trump political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Saturday evening, much of that appeared to change. He also addressed the nation from the Oval Office, calling for a lowering of the political temperature. “I think it should,” one close Biden ally told CNN when asked if that may end up being a result of Saturday’s attack. But those expected discussions were quickly eclipsed by the response to the assassination attempt on Biden’s predecessor and political opponent.

Biden became the first Democrat to win Georgia since 1992, when he defeated Trump by less than 12,000 votes. A Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll released this week found 47% of Black voters said Biden should continue his campaign, compared to 49% who said he should cede the nomination to someone else. A recent Pew Research Center survey found that among Biden supporters, 58% of Black supporters said both Biden and Trump ought to be replaced, compared with 84% of Asian supporters, 74% of White supporters and 67% of Hispanic supporters. Support among Black voters has long been the make or break point for Democratic politicians. In 2008, Black voters helped Barack Obama win the Democratic nomination and their high voter turnout helped him carry states like Ohio and North Carolina.

Aides to the president told CNN that not only are they no longer interested in discussing Biden’s on-stage fiasco last month, and there are simply no outstanding questions about the president’s political future to debate. “We’re done talking about the debate and focused on a singular mission: Defeating Donald Trump in November,” one Biden aide told CNN. Washington CNN —After President Joe Biden’s reelection efforts spiraled into chaos following his debate fiasco last month, Democrats who have both stood by and abandoned Biden since then see Tuesday as a decisive day for the president’s political future. Jeffries listened as he was confronted with concerns and frustrations from all factions of the caucus during House Democrats’ Tuesday meeting. Plan B talks get louderThe Biden campaign’s attempts to soothe panicked Democrats and donors after the president’s calamitous debate appear to have cratered. One Democratic lawmaker has openly called on President Biden to withdraw from the race, while others are sharply criticizing his campaign’s response. And many party backers remain as nervous about sticking with him as they were last week — but also worry about the alternatives. The latest: Representative Lloyd Doggett of Texas became the first sitting Democrat to demand that Biden step aside. Democrats and foreign allies worry that Biden has increasingly seemed confused or listless, The Times reports.
