The model, Jenifer An, was a background actor for another musician’s video that Ye was guest-starring in, the suit says. A few hours into the video shoot, Ye arrived and “took control of the production and the production team,” the suit states. “Defendant West then ordered the production team to start the playback music. However, Defendant West did not know his assigned lyrics and instead rambled, ‘Rawr, rawr, rawr,’” the suit says. “Next, Defendant West smothered Plaintiff’s face with both of his hands, which smeared her makeup.

All charges have been dismissed against a deaf Black man with cerebral palsy who was shocked with a Taser and repeatedly punched by Phoenix police officers. The 911 caller said a white man in his 20s had been the aggressor and was still in the store, the police incident report said. Body camera video recently released by Showalter showed that Harris attempted to arrest McAlpin within seconds of exiting his vehicle. She could be heard in the video telling the officers that her husband is deaf and has cerebral palsy. McAlpin's attorney said Monday that the officers launched a "frenzied and violent attack on Tyron."

There is no indication that the officers knew McAlpin was deaf or had cerebral palsy before his arrest. Harris’ body camera video shows him attempting to arrest McAlpin within seconds of exiting his vehicle. Harris tells Sue, “I think I broke my hand” and Harris says McAlpin had bitten him, the body camera video shows. Much of the interaction is captured on Harris’ body camera. McAlpin's wife arrives on the scene minutes later and tells the officers that he is deaf and has cerebral palsy, the body camera video shows.

A police officer in a Seattle suburb was found guilty on Thursday in the 2019 shooting death of a man outside a convenience store, the first such conviction under a Washington State law making it easier to hold the police accountable for the unjustified use of deadly force. A jury found the officer, Jeffrey Nelson, guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree assault for the killing of Jesse Sarey, 26, during an arrest on a disorderly-conduct charge outside Sunshine Grocery in Auburn, Wash., on May 31, 2019. Mr. Sarey’s mother, Kari Sarey Hart, and his younger brother, Torell Sarey, died as the case wound its way through the legal system, said Elaine Simons, 64, who was a foster mother to the brothers. Mr. Sarey’s mother and family fled Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime. “Neither of them got to be here today, except spiritually, for this kind of justice,” she said of Mr. Sarey’s mother and brother.

On its surface, food seems like a safe, low-stakes topic of conversation. Yet just like on matters of religion and politics, discussions of food can become surprisingly contentious — to demonstrate this, just ask your dinner guests to consider whether a hot dog is a sandwich. And some dissect food trends like bone broth, cold brew coffee and air fryers to judge whether the hype is warranted. Starter episode: “What’s The Best Type of French Fry?”As you’d expect from a BBC World Service production, this series has a nuanced, global perspective on the production and consumption of food. Although the guests featured in this American Public Media series are all food professionals, part of the fun is just how varied their recipes are in terms of both complexity and category.

The story evokes images of George Floyd begging for his life under the knee of a Minneapolis officer in May 2020. It’s also the first trial under a 5-year-old Washington state law designed to make it easier to prosecute police who wrongfully use deadly force. After what witnesses said appeared to be a brief conversation between Ellis and the officers, Burbank, in the passenger seat, threw open his door, knocking Ellis down. A third officer, Timothy Rankine, arrived after Ellis was already handcuffed, face-down, and knelt on his upper back as Ellis pleaded for breath. Auburn police Officer Jeffrey Nelson was charged in the fatal shooting of Jesse Sarey in 2019 and is still awaiting trial.

A sign outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara temple is seen after the killing on its grounds in June 2023 of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada September 18, 2023. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday that domestic intelligence agencies were actively pursuing credible allegations tying New Delhi's agents to the shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, in June. "We've been working with the U.S. very closely, including on the public disclosure yesterday," the source said. India quickly dismissed Trudeau's assertion as absurd, and said it was expelling a Canadian diplomat, a tit-for-tat move after Canada expelled India's top intelligence figure on Monday. New Delhi, which has urged Ottawa to act against anti-Indian elements, has long been unhappy over Sikh separatist activity in Canada.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. Insurance is an option for someLong-term care insurance, a very niche and complex market, has traditionally been an option for those able to buy policies, but it is far from the norm. “The population of seniors who buy long-term care insurance constitutes a segment of the population who are healthier and their longevity is likely different than the nation as a whole,” said Slome. “Our concern is that … it will get even more expensive for those who have had the modest resources to access long-term care insurance to be able to afford it,” she noted.

Appalachia is a region and a mind-set. Appalachia has few large cities, our economies are land-based and, unless you live here, we’re probably not what you think. It’s “Appal-achia.” As in, “If you keep that up, I’ll throw this apple atcha.” But in fact, we won’t. We tend toward heart-blessing kindness in the way of small-town folks who rely on each other in good times and bad, and live together regardless. Barboncino, a Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, has become the first unionized pizzeria in New York City after its workers unanimously voted to approve the formation of a union. The restaurant staff began organizing more than a year ago with Workers United, which has also supported the employees who are organizing at Starbucks stores. On May 22, staff asked the pizzeria’s owners to formally recognize the union and filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board. Workers said they’d like higher wages and benefits, including higher minimum starting hourly rates and health care assistance. But they’d also like consistent schedules, protections from unjust disciplinary action and more direct involvement in establishing health and safety protocols.

The track list — featuring song titles like “I Hate Love,” “My Mistake” and “Red Flag Collector” — practically screamed divorce, babe, divorce. But Clarkson, 41, said she wanted “Chemistry” to depict a full arc of a relationship, including its high points. (A remix by David Guetta kicks the song into an even higher gear.) The slower, sultry “Magic” addresses a more long-term devotion: “Magic takes time, and I’ve got my sights and they’re set on you,” she sings breathily. Clarkson delivers these vocals with her signature virtuosity, but she doesn’t quite inhabit these relatively faceless songs as fully as she does when she’s singing about love gone wrong.

The cult of Emily Oster

Emily Oster is sitting in the back of a car, checking her Garmin watch as we lurch through rush-hour traffic toward the Holland Tunnel. A self-described expert in data, Oster uses her economics training to dig into studies on things like circumcision and screen time and translate them for popular consumption. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the way Oster presents herself in her books and newsletters and the way she conducts her life. Unsurprisingly, economics informs every aspect of the way Oster sees the world. When Oster was a toddler, her mother told a Yale colleague that Oster often talked to herself before falling asleep.
