The numerous drone sightings by members of the public in East Coast states are not out of the ordinary and do not pose “a national security or public safety risk,” the FBI and three other federal agencies said in a joint statement Monday night. Obtained by NBC NewsThe statement also said reports of drone sightings over military facilities "are not new." Monday's statement echoes one in which the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said last week that they had "no evidence" at the time that the drone sightings in New Jersey posed a threat. Kathy Hochul and some members of Congress have demanded more information from federal officials amid conspiracy theories and rising public concern tied to the sightings. Officials from the FBI, the CIA and the national intelligence director’s office will provide the briefing at 2 p.m.

Ferguson, whose video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. Other TikTok users have shared similar beliefs that the drones may be searching for nuclear weapons or dirty bombs. The mystery behind the drones is also furthering decades-old conspiracy theories. One refers to Project Blue Beam, which involves a supposed government plot to fake an alien invasion and spark panic. One New Jersey mayor, Ryan Herd of Pequannock Township, told NBC New York that answers are necessary to quell community concerns.

MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — President-elect Donald Trump said the government should disclose more information about the recent drone sightings in New Jersey. "Something strange is going on," he said. The Pentagon, which has said the drones aren't U.S. military-operated, has denied the drones were linked to Iran. In a joint statement last week, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security said there is "no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus."

Two men were arrested in Boston over the weekend for flying a drone “dangerously close” to Logan International Airport as investigations into objects in the sky continue across the East Coast. Authorities said that a Boston police officer specializing in crime surveillance detected an unmanned aircraft system operating near the airport and identified the drone’s location. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Sunday requested that the Department of Homeland Security send a drone detection system to New York and New Jersey, after a number of drone sightings in the Northeast. “There are thousands of drones flown every day in the United States, recreational drones, commercial drones.

WASHINGTON — Key House and Senate lawmakers are demanding top federal law enforcement officials immediately brief them about mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey and New York, as the White House downplayed any potential threats to national security or the public. But lawmakers say that they — and the public — need more information after weeks of sightings in New Jersey and other states. “But the public deserves to know more, and it’s up to the FBI and Homeland Security to brief the public immediately. For weeks, residents have been spotting and taking videos of drones, which officials have described as commercial-grade devices and not typical “hobbyist” drones. "We’re going to try to get answers, and we’ll go from there.”So far, an all-member House briefing on the drones has not been scheduled, though some individual members have been briefed.

New Jersey is the third state to sign a law prohibiting the banning of books at public schools and libraries, following Illinois and Minnesota. The new law is set to take effect in a year from the governor’s signing. One of the things that has been clear with Donald Trump’s win this time is how different it is: no shock wave jolting society. This is, according to polling, one of the presidential election outcomes most widely accepted as legitimate of the past 25 years. On the public level, we’re back in business in some way, back to an earlier pre-Trump era of normal relations, strategic silence, public deference and an antiseptic corporate friendliness — a bit of flattery, at times, for Mr. Trump. Tim Cook, the Apple C.E.O., wrote on X on Nov. 6: “Congratulations President Trump on your victory! “We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues and we told him so,” Joe Scarborough said.

Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey announced Friday that he would seek to become the Garden State's next governor, entering what is expected to be a crowded Democratic primary field. Gottheimer has represented his state's 5th Congressional District, which lies in northern New Jersey, bordering New York, since 2017. But one distinguishing feature of his campaign, Gottheimer said, is that he is "focused like a laser beam on the need to lower your taxes and lower your costs." "He stands up for what he believes, and you can count on him to deliver," Berry said in the campaign video. Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., who has served alongside Gottheimer since 2019, is another name that has been floated in the state as a potential candidate in next year's race.

At the time, Hochul said congestion pricing at that rate would be a hardship on New Yorkers struggling to make ends meet in the post-pandemic economy. Now the race is on to get congestion pricing approved before President-elect Donald Trump, who opposes it, takes office in January. The revised congestion pricing plan is expected to go before the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board for approval next week. After the expected MTA approval, the state and city will then ink an agreement with transportation officials in the Biden administration, who have been supportive of congestion pricing. They also predicted that congestion pricing would generate $15 billion that could be used to modernize subways and buses.
