(AP) — A Democratic state lawmaker in Nebraska who unsuccessfully ran for governor two years ago is seeking a seat in the U.S. House. She hopes to challenge Republican Rep. Mike Flood, who served in the state legislature with Blood until he was elected to Congress. Blood was running for governor at the time, a race she lost to Republican Jim Pillen. “I’m running because we can do better and bring back a strong voice in D.C. that represents all Nebraskans, not the vocal minority,” she said. So far no other Democrats have filed for the primary or announced plans to run.

George Santos is facing a litany of criminal charges in a federal court in New York. Meanwhile, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made clear on Tuesday that he wouldn't call for Santos' resignation until he's convicted. For now, McCarthy needs Santos' vote, given the GOP's razor-thin House majority. Even if convicted and McCarthy called on Santos to resigm, Santos could still stay in office if he chose to. "Three months ago, I introduced a bill to expel George Santos, and over 40 members have already signed the expulsion resolution," said Garcia.
Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint a special counsel to investigate former President Donald Trump is a miscalculation, with the main problem being timing. Despite assurances from Garland that a special counsel will not bog down the investigation, reality suggests otherwise. Not to mention that past practice demonstrates that the Justice Department has regularly shown that anyone can be held accountable — without resorting to a special counsel. No special counsel was used. I believe Trump’s day of reckoning is long overdue, and Garland’s overly cautious decision to appoint a special counsel may continue postponing that day.
