Where to live is a very personal decision. But with some degree of remote work seemingly here to stay, The Wall Street Journal set out to put data and analysis behind how to identify great places to live if you have the option to work from home. We started out by commissioning a custom survey, with Ipsos conducting a nationwide poll of 1,050 adults in the U.S. in August 2022. This poll allowed us to identify the top 10 factors people said they cared most about in a remote-work location and to weight them accordingly in our ranking. Our unique ranking highlights places you may not have thought to put at the top of your list, but that fit the criteria people say they care about the most when it comes to a great place to work remotely.
When people think of great places to work remotely, what usually comes to mind is some resort-worthy locale like a beach in Hawaii or North Carolina, or a cabin in the Rockies. But what about Springfield, Mo.
In 2022, there are five ballot measures addressing abortion—the most on record for a single year, according to Ballotpedia. In California, Michigan and Vermont, voters are deciding if the right to an abortion should be codified into law. Kentucky voters will choose if the state’s constitution should be amended to declare that it doesn’t protect the right to an abortion. Montana is asking voters whether to require medical care and treatment for infants born alive after an attempted abortion. In August, Kansas voters rejected a proposed state constitutional amendment that would have ended protections for abortion.
With the Nov. 8 midterms approaching, voters have different options for casting their ballot depending on the state, including by mail, in-person early voting and at the polls on Election Day. Eight states and the District of Columbia use widespread vote-by-mail systems, in which they automatically mail ballots to registered voters, though they also offer in-person voting options.
