A satellite identifies tank tracks in the dirt, and a mall security camera catches the moment a bomb in Gaza detonates. While journalists' access to the war in Gaza is limited, a flood of video from all sorts of sources documents what is — and isn't — going on. That means combing through an endless supply of video posted on sources like X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Telegram and Facebook. Sometimes images from video games are passed off as real, but experts can usually spot them. Satellite images, video and photos helped The Washington Post track where Israeli forces went during their initial incursion into Gaza.

IMF Director of Fiscal Affairs Vitor Gaspar speaks to reporters at the headquarters of the International Monetary Fund in Washington, U.S., October 12, 2022. Continuing along their projected fiscal paths will ultimately cause difficulties for the world's two largest economies, Gaspar told Reuters in an interview. The U.S. and China are fueling a projected return to higher debt levels after two years of falling debt-to-GDP ratios as a post-COVID growth surge fades. REUTERS/Marco Bello/File PhotoAug 2 (Reuters) - Prosecutors who charged Donald Trump and two aides with mishandling classified documents asked a judge on Wednesday for a hearing over potential conflicts of interest with one of the men's lawyers. Trump is accused of taking troves of classified documents with him upon leaving the White House in 2021 and storing them haphazardly at Mar-a-Lago. Nauta and Oliveira are accused of helping him try to hide the documents from investigators seeking their return. Prosecutors said in a July 27 filing that they are not aware of any case where a defendant was granted permission to review classified documents at home. Trump’s lawyers have argued that forcing them to only review and discuss classified documents in a secure location would be too inconvenient.

July 11 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit in which the founder of WallStreetBets, which helped ignite investors' fascination with "meme" stocks, accused Reddit of wrongly banning him from moderating the community and usurping his trademark rights. Rogozinski had applied to trademark "WallStreetBets" in March 2020, when the community reached 1 million subscribers. Meme stocks gain popularity through discussions, often among inexperienced investors, in online forums including Twitter. Prominent meme stocks have included AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC.N), GameStop (GME.N), Koss (KOSS.O) and the now-bankrupt Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBYQ.PK). Former President Donald Trump on Monday night asked a federal court to hold off on setting a date for the criminal trial over his handling of classified documents, arguing that the unprecedented case requires "a measured consideration and timeline." Their 12-page filing put forward a slew of reasons to "postpone any consideration of a new trial date." They also gestured toward the complexities of discussing classified material in a criminal trial and the potential difficulty of selecting a jury during a presidential election. The attorneys also said they believe the indictment against Trump and Nauta will ultimately be dismissed. Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, had initially scheduled the former president's criminal trial to start on Aug. 14.

REUTERS/James Lawler Duggan/File PhotoWASHINGTON, June 28 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was among those affected by a wide-ranging hack centered on a piece of software called MOVEit Transfer, a source at HHS said on Wednesday. "While no HHS systems or networks were compromised, attackers gained access to data by exploiting the vulnerability in the MOVEit Transfer software of third-party vendors," a health department official familiar with the matter said. Hackers behind the massive breach also claimed credit for stealing data from two major law firms, Kirkland & Ellis LLP and K&L Gates LLP. "The end of the public health emergency means CDC will have less authority to collect certain types of public health data — that means less data will be available to us," Dr. Nirav Shah, the CDC's principal deputy director, told reporters during a call Thursday. Congress required these labs in March 2020 to send results to the federal government, but that mandate was tied to the public health emergency. "In some of the jurisdictions or some of the states those authorities will go away with the end of public health emergency," he said. The spotty reporting of case data also means the CDC will no longer report virus transmission at the county level after the public health emergency ends. Shah said the CDC will still have ways to monitor Covid after the public health emergency ends.

The battle was an odd sideshow to AG Letitia James' $250 million fraud lawsuit against Trump Org. A New York appellate court spent just four paragraphs rejecting the former president's 1,000-page appeal of the contempt fine. The contempt fine was Trump's penalty for repeatedly failing to fully comply with James' subpoena for his personal business documents. In January, Engoron rejected what he called Trump's "borderline frivolous" request to dismiss James lawsuit altogether. Also in January, Trump dropped his efforts to challenge James' lawsuit in federal court in Florida.
Oral arguments focused on whether something called the "Trump Organization" legally exists. The judge, meanwhile, warned that "come hell or high water" an October trial will not be delayed. "Come hell or high water, and pardon my French," the judge added of his set-in-stone trial start time: 10 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023. It's shorthand for them, as well — James' lawsuit references "the Trump Organization," for convenience's sake, some 300 times in its 222 pages. The judge urged the attorney general's office and the defendants' lawyers to avoid a protracted argument over sanctions.
Judges have repeatedly slammed Trump for using lawsuits "to advance a political narrative." "Keep Trump busy, because this is the way you defeat him, to keep him busy with litigation," Trump testified in the deposition, speaking in the third person. US District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks said that Trump has a "pattern of misusing the courts to serve political purposes." Trump's lawyers have to deal with his 2024 runIn the Trump lawsuits that haven't been dismissed, those trials may need to be scheduled around his 2024 campaign events. A trial for Carroll's claims is set for April of this year, and James' lawsuit against Trump is on track for October.
On Thursday, a judge fined Trump $1 million over his "frivolous" lawsuit against Hillary Clinton. Friday, Trump dropped another lawsuit before the same judge, this one against NY AG Letitia James. He wrote that like the Clinton suit, the James suit "had all the telltale signs of being both vexatious and frivolous." On Thursday, Middlebrooks went further, issuing a scathing rebuke of Trump's legal tactics along with fining Trump and his lawyers for bringing the case. In that case, too, a New York state judge recently threatened money sanctions in response to what he called Trump's pattern of "borderline frivolous" litigation.

REUTERS/James Lawler DugganWASHINGTON, Dec 1 (Reuters) - The world's poorest countries now owe $62 billion in annual debt service to official bilateral creditors, an increase of 35% over the past year, World Bank President David Malpass said on Thursday, warning that the increased burden is increasing the risk of defaults. Malpass told the Reuters NEXT conference in New York that two thirds of this debt burden is now owed to China, providing some details of the development lender's annual debt statistics report due next week. Zambia's Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane told Reuters that China had sought clarification from the Zambian government and the IMF on their debt agreement, he said. At the end of 2021, Chinese creditors accounted for almost $6 billion of Zambia's external debt, which was then $17.27 billion. The Export-Import Bank of China is representing all Chinese creditors in their restructuring negotiations with Zambia, Musokotwane said. Ronna McDaniel said the RNC cannot pay Donald Trump's legal bills if he announces his candidacy. The committee has paid over $2.3 million in legal fees for Trump, CNN reported. McDaniel did not say whether Trump will run for president, stating she is "only focused on 2022." "We cannot pay legal bills for any candidate that's announced," McDaniel said. I don't even know what I'm doing for Thanksgiving right now, let alone thinking about 2024," McDaniel said.
New York Attorney General Letitia James responded to Donald Trump's new lawsuit filed against her Wednesday night. James alleged Trump is still committing fraud and is "seeking to put assets beyond this Court's reach." Trump accused the attorney general of abusing her power by investigating him and his family. Kevin Wallace, a lead prosecutor in the James lawsuit against Trump, told a judge that the AG is still "seeking an injunction against ongoing fraudulent activities by the Trump Organization." Trump's lawsuit on Wednesday is the latest legal action he's taken against James, who he has frequently railed against and accused of being corrupt.
After James announced the lawsuit, Trump in a social media post called the action "Another Witch Hunt." NEW YORK CRIMINAL PROBEThe Trump Organization is set to go on trial on Oct. 24 on New York state criminal tax fraud charges. Legal experts said Trump may have violated at least three Georgia criminal election laws: conspiracy to commit election fraud, criminal solicitation to commit election fraud and intentional interference with performance of election duties. A California federal judge said on Wednesday in a separate lawsuit that Trump had knowingly made false voter fraud claims in a Georgia election lawsuit, according to emails the judge reviewed. read moreIt is not immediately clear what ramifications Trump could face from the ruling.
Ethiopia's State Finance Minister Eyob Tekalign attends the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington, U.S., October 15, 2022. Ethopia's state finance minister Eyob Tekalign Tolina acknowledged the war was a key factor in the delay as well, and said he hoped there would be peace talks in "the coming few weeks" in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund-World Bank annual meetings in Washington. He said Ethiopia was requesting "exceptional access" to IMF funding of more than 100% of its allowance, but declined to say how much exactly. "As you know, we have been calling for the AU process, the AU-led peace talks, which is advancing now." He declined to specify how much debt relief the country requires, saying that the IMF still needs to finish a Debt Sustainability Analysis, which forms the basis of debt restructurings.
