A Nebraska girl's murder went unsolved for more than 55 years before an Oklahoma man was arrested and accused of being the "enraged killer," that was being sought for decades, officials said. Mary Kay Heese. The family maintained a Facebook page all these years, asking for the public's help to bring justice to the teenager whose "life was taken by this enraged killer." Investigators recently exhumed Heese’s body, though it wasn't immediately clear what role, if any, unearthing the girl's remains played in Ambroz's arrest. Ambroz was taken into custody on Monday and was still at the Kay County Detention Facility on Thursday, a jail official said.

A Florida man arrested on suspicion of weapons violations on Halloween had a list of targets that included a congressman and locations he associated with Jewish and Black people, prosecutors allege. The Federal Public Defender of South Florida did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A customary walk-through of the home turned up evidence of firearms, including spent shell casings and a homemade target, Anton said. The alleged list of targets includes Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., as well as locations the writer of the list characterized as draws for Jewish and Black people — a synagogue, a Jewish cemetery, a Jewish sandwich shop and parks and schools that were described using a derogatory term for Black people, according to Anton's filing. Photos of Combs' handwritten to-do list should never have been given to prosecutors, a lawyer said. "I think it's clear that this material is outside the defense defending a criminal case," the prosecutor told the judge of the to-do list excerpts. The filter team then extracted all attorney-client material before passing the remaining photographs along to the Combs prosecutors, Slavik told the judge. Combs is due back in court on Friday, when his defense team will make a third argument for bail. Prosecutors cannot refer to Combs' disputed to-do list tasks in opposing bail, the judge ordered.

artifacts from an Etruscan necropolis looted by a couple of bungling tomb raiders in Umbria who stumbled across the haul on their land. They were found in Citta della Pieve, about 150 kilometers (90 miles) north of Rome. The ornate artifacts were seized by Italian police after 'clumsy' tomb raiders tried to find buyers online. They “had nothing to do with the world of (practiced) tomb raiders” and were “clumsy” and “amateurish” in the way they tried to access the black market for looted art, the prosecutor said. Another Etruscan tomb, belonging to the same “Pulfna” family, was found in Città della Pieve in 2015.

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered prosecutors to get rid of copies of 19 pages of notes taken from Sean "Diddy" Combs' jail cell after his lawyers argued the seizure violated attorney-client privilege. Judge Arun Subramanian ruled Tuesday that the court will keep the papers while prosecutors and Combs’ lawyers submit briefs on the issue over the next few weeks. The music mogul has denied both the charges as well as prosecutors' allegations that he’s tampering with witnesses from jail. At Tuesday's hearing Combs, 55, who wore olive prison clothing garb, appeared to have lost weight since his last court appearance. Law enforcement missed critical opportunities to prevent a 2022 mass shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado, a pair of lawsuits filed over the weekend allege. The suits claim that the massacre at Club Q in Colorado Springs, which killed five people and injured at least 19, could have been averted if authorities had enforced Colorado’s red flag law. The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners and former El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder are named as defendants in the suits, which accuse them of negligence and, in the case of the deceased victims, wrongful death. A spokesperson for El Paso County declined to comment on the allegations, citing the pending litigation. The El Paso County defendants “willfully and wantonly ignored the shooter’s warning signs,” the legal documents say.

HONG KONG — A Hong Kong court sentenced dozens of leading pro-democracy figures to up to 10 years prison Tuesday in the single largest trial under a national security law that critics say has been used to all but eliminate political dissent in the Chinese territory. Lawyers for the defendants have argued that such action was within the bounds of Hong Kong law. In March, Hong Kong’s opposition-free legislature also enacted local national security legislation. Among the 47 are “second-tier pan-democrats” who were previously active members of the Hong Kong legislature, Burns said. Hong Kong officials said last month that there was no time limit for prosecuting the cases, noting that it takes time to gather evidence.

After having called more than 30 witnesses, the prosecution in the manslaughter trial of Daniel Penny, who is charged in the chokehold death of Jordan Neely, rested its case Monday. Penny put him in a chokehold that lasted about six minutes, prosecutors have said and evidence presented at trial has shown. Penny’s attorneys have said he acted to protect himself and other subway riders from “a seething, psychotic” Neely. Again and again, Harris answered that she believed the chokehold was the most probable cause of Neely’s death. Harris testified Friday that she based her ruling on her autopsy findings, coupled with the video and the investigative information about it.

Israel’s military has issued 1,126 arrest warrants for ultra-Orthodox conscripts who have not responded to drafting orders, in a move likely to fuel discontent over a controversial decision to remove their decades-long exemption from service. The move is likely to fuel the discontent that has roiled the country since a Supreme Court ruling in June that ultra-Orthodox Jews could not be exempt from military service, as they have been since the founding of Israel. ‘Death rather than draft’Anger had been simmering among the ultra-Orthodox community even before the news of the arrest warrants. For many Haredis, the idea that they would be pulled from studying scripture and drafted into Israel’s military is simply out of the question. However, the community has since grown exponentially, allowing tens of thousands of ultra-Orthodox men to now avoid the draft.

He was the founder of Apple Daily, a pro-democracy, anti-Beijing newspaper that was forced to shut down in 2021. The trial, which began in December 2023, is the most high-profile prosecution of a Hong Kong media figure since the city was handed over from British to Chinese control in 1997. Like all national security trials in Hong Kong, Lai’s trial does not have a jury and is presided over by three judges picked from a national security committee that is approved by Hong Kong’s leader. “Jimmy Lai is a key instigator of anti-China activities, and his collusion with external forces to disrupt Hong Kong and incite division is well-known,” China’s foreign ministry office in Hong Kong said in a statement last week. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) ranked Hong Kong at 135 out of 180 places in its annual press freedom ranking.

In the last Congress, Democrats repeatedly helped Republicans keep the government open and propped up Speaker Mike Johnson when he faced a challenge to his leadership post. He even tapped other senior House Democrats to echo his message to the Biden team, according to another person familiar with the efforts. Still, unlike some in his party, Jeffries is not in despair, according to multiple people familiar with his thinking. But Democrats say Jeffries — alongside Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who will serve as minority leader in the next Congress — might be the best person to at least try. CNN —An anonymous male celebrity says he is the victim of an extortion scheme and is suing a high-powered Texas attorney who is representing several people in civil lawsuits that accuse Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault. Buzbee has said he is representing at least 120 alleged victims of Combs. The lawsuit filed by the anonymous celebrity claims that Buzbee’s firm is trying to capitalize off the “explosive allegations against Sean Combs” by roping in public figures who have been acquainted with Combs. In an interview with CNN last month, Buzbee explained that his firm initially files cases anonymously in an effort to protect the safety of his clients. “It is a cynical extortion scheme that is dressed up in vindicating victims of actual sexual abuse,” the lawsuit states.

Police stand guard outside the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts building before the sentencing against the 45 convicted pro-democracy activists charged under the national security law, in Hong Kong, China November 19, 2024. Hong Kong's High Court on Tuesday jailed 45 pro-democracy activists for up to 10 years following a landmark national security trial that has damaged the city's once feisty democracy movement and drawn criticism from the U.S. and other countries. A total of 47 pro-democracy activists were arrested and charged in 2021 with conspiracy to commit subversion under a Beijing-imposed national security law and had faced sentences of up to life in prison. The Chinese and Hong Kong governments say the national security laws were necessary to restore order after mass pro-democracy protests in 2019, and the democrats have been treated in accordance with local laws. Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong said she was "gravely concerned" about the sentence, and called on China to "cease suppression of freedoms of expression, assembly, media and civil society," in Hong Kong.

The evidence includes a jacket police found in a dumpster near where Ibarra lived, which prosecutors say had both Ibarra’s and Riley’s blood on it. FBI Special Agent Jamie Hipkiss also testified about cellphone data he examined, which included photos on a phone connected to Ibarra from the early morning of Feb. 22. On Friday during opening statements, Ibarra’s defense attorneys said there was not enough evidence to prove Ibarra was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
