Tel Aviv, Israel CNN —The Israeli military has submitted a plan to the war cabinet for “evacuating the population” of Gaza from areas of fighting, amid warnings that an offensive on the southern city of Rafah will take place soon. That “upcoming operational plan” was submitted for approval on Monday, Netanyahu’s office said, though its Monday statement did not mention Rafah by name. CNN has not seen a copy of the plan. Israel has already targeted Rafah with near-daily airstrikes, while preparing for a ground offensive in the city. Tel Aviv, Israel CNN —Israeli authorities recalled their team of negotiators from Qatar after reaching a “dead end” in talks to release hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, according to a statement released by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. The tenuous truce between Hamas and Israel lasted seven days before collapsing on Friday morning, with Israel accusing the militant group of firing rockets in violation of the accord. However, negotiators began expressing concern before Friday’s collapse that Hamas may no longer be holding enough women and children to get Israel to continue pauses in fighting. Israel had agreed to extend the truce daily for every 10 hostages Hamas released. The Israel Defense Forces said Friday that there are 136 hostages still being held in Gaza, including 17 women and children.
