BETHLEHEM, West Bank — In the little town of Bethlehem, Christmas this year is barely a whisper. There was no jubilant countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree in the main square. Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Pierbattista Pizzaballa celebrated mass in Gaza City on Dec. 22. It serves as a reminder of the thousands of Palestinian children killed in Israeli strikes during the war, Isaac said. “We see Jesus in every child pulled from under the rubble in Gaza.”Aside from the suffering in Gaza, Bethlehem faces its own challenges.

Canadian uranium miner Cameco Corporation is well positioned for growth on rising demand for nuclear power in the U.S. and less exposure to global geopolitical risk, according to Goldman Sachs. CCJ YTD mountain Cameco, YTD Cameco is integrated across uranium mining, conversion and fabrication as well nuclear services through its stake in Westinghouse, Mehta wrote. Cameco is also an attractive partner for Western utilities because the company has relatively low geopolitical risk. This puts the uranium price midpoint at around $100 which is well above current spot levels of about $80 per pound, according to Goldman. Cameco is still working through the financial impact of its Westinghouse acquisition, but the miner sees a 6% to 10% growth rate over the next five years for the nuclear services company.

Mr. Isaac, who is Black, turned that singular moment in July 2020 — when he decided not to join many other N.B.A. players in kneeling during the national anthem as the league restarted in a Covid “bubble” setting in Orlando, Fla. — into a platform as a conservative political activist. In 2022, he spoke at a rally of Christian nationalists and anti-vaccine Americans and wrote a book about why he did not join the protest. Most companies used to do everything they could to avoid political controversies and, by extension, risk alienating potential customers. Seemingly everything in the United States is political now, including where you shop for socks and leggings.

The US Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation insures deposits up to $250,000 per person, per account, using a fund that banks pay into. “I don’t think that’s served us well.”Some argue the US deposit insurance limit should be 100 times higher. What is deposit insurance? Deposit insurance is aimed at calming fears, giving customers less reason to pull their cash out in a hurry. The debate over deposit insurance taps into bigger questions about the state’s role in private enterprise.
American airlines planes are seen at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in San Francisco, California, United States on September 15, 2022. American Airlines is getting rid of its traditional frequent flyer award chart as the carrier moves toward dynamic pricing for mileage redemptions, the latest shift in its lucrative AAdvantage loyalty program. American in December said it would get rid of different redemption categories, MileSAAver and AAnytime awards, which have set minimum rates. The new redemption level will be called "Flight Awards" and the chart will serve as a reference guide. American introduced dynamic pricing for award tickets in 2019, meaning the number of miles required to redeem for a ticket fluctuate based on supply and demand.
William Isaac says the FDIC's handling of Silicon Valley Bank's collapse "clearly" constitutes a bailout. On Monday, Bloomberg anchor Scarlet Fu asked Isaac about his views on the FDIC taking over Silicon Valley Bank — and whether it should be considered a bailout. Isaac added that the Silicon Valley Bank situation is similar to what happened with the Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company's collapse in 1984. But Isaac also questioned if the FDIC should go as far with Silicon Valley Bank as it did with Continental Illinois. Isaac separately told Politico on Sunday that Silicon Valley Bank's failure will likely spread to more banks.
A former FDIC chair says there's "no doubt" more banks will fail after Silicon Valley Bank's collapse. During Isaac's tenure, he had to manage the fallout of the 1980s banking crisis. Around 3,000 banks and thrifts failed during the 1980s banking crisis, per the Securities and Exchange Commission. But other banking industry observers say Silicon Valley Bank's implosion doesn't mean other banks are at risk too. Goldman Sachs analysts also advised investors to buy dipping banking shares amid Silicon Valley Bank's collapse, saying that the risk of Silicon Valley Bank's failure spreading to larger banks is "remote."
PETALUMA, Calif.—Neil McIsaac has something many other dairy farmers here don’t: a storm-runoff capture system that can provide backup water for his herd when local reservoirs go dry, as they did last year. Already, he and others involved in the project say it has proven its worth. It has captured 670,000 gallons so far this winter, enough to slake the thirst of his 700 cows for a month, Mr. McIsaac said.
