A new thematic exchange-traded fund is trying to give investors a way in to music and entertainment by combining some of the industry's biggest U.S. stocks along with international holdings and some companies with no obvious music connection at all. The Clouty Music, Media and Entertainment ETF (TUNE) began trading Thursday with 50 stocks in its portfolio. There are only a handful of music industry stocks available to investors, such as Spotify , Warner Music Group and South Korean company Hybe. The TUNE ETF, which has an expense ratio of 0.65%, includes those stocks but also others in media and entertainment. The music industry is also one area that could see significant change alongside the recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence.

A crypto exchange backed by financial giants Charles Schwab , Fidelity Digital Assets and Citadel Securities has officially launched trading in four crypto assets, the company said Tuesday. EDX Markets first announced its launch plans for a "non-custodial" exchange in September, about two months before the collapse of FTX. The EDX exchange allows trading of bitcoin , ether , litecoin and bitcoin cash – none of which were named "crypto asset securities" in the lawsuits the Securities and Exchange Commission brought against Binance and Coinbase two weeks ago. EDX also has plans to launch a clearinghouse business this year to facilitate the settlement process but will still keep customer assets held at third-party banks and a crypto custodian. The company is set to announce Tuesday that it has closed a second funding round with new investors, including the options-exchange operator Miami International Holdings and affiliates of proprietary trading firms DV Trading, GTS, GSR and Hudson River Trading.

The research report, published in February 2022 when China was battling the pandemic, predicted that the domestic stock market would still seek bottom following a rebound, as the economy was under heavy downward pressure. Negative comments by analysts and commentators in China are often censored and have come under increased regulatory scrutiny. The warning comes as China's stock market is struggling to stand on its feet amid signs the post-COVID recovery is losing steam. Other analysts and commentators in China have been censored or come under scrutiny after negative comments in the past. Separately, China's securities watchdog last March launched a crackdown on brokerages using feng shui to predict stock market trends in their research notes, state media reported.

Yacht maker’s Italy pivot shows the way for Prada

LONDON, June 8 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Chinese-owned yacht maker Ferretti is testing uncharted waters. Prada shares have been trading exclusively in the Asian financial centre since the company’s 2011 initial public offering. For Ferretti, Hong Kong has provided a helpful springboard. Ferretti shares trade at 12 times expected net earnings of 78 million euros this year, lower than Milan-listed rival Sanlorenzo’s (SNL.MI) 15 times multiple. In Hong Kong many shares still exist as physical certificates; these are traded electronically only after being deposited in a centralised system.

The companies in discussion are largely small- to mid-sized, making them achievable targets, as opposed to firms listed on the FTSE 100. 'DRY POWDER'One of the contributing factors for PE firms' abundance of cash, or "dry powder", is the continued buildup of uninvested capital during the pandemic, according to fund managers. During the first five months of 2023, nine listed firms on the London Stock Exchange were approached by PE firms, exceeding the number of targets in the same time period last year, according to Refinitiv data. Among those out shopping for firms, many seem attracted to these lower valuations of small- and mid-cap firms. Though firms listed on the smaller UK indexes are more domestically focused than their larger counterparts, analysts point out that nearly half of their revenue is from their international presence, making them an even more attractive purchase for PE firms.

HONG KONG, May 11 (Reuters) - For many of China's manufacturers of baby and children's products, painful reverberations from last year's historic decline in the country's population are already upon them. Hong Kong-listed Health and Happiness (H&H) (1112.HK), which gains nearly half of its revenue from baby products such as infant formula, food and diapers, is one such company. China's market for baby food and diapers is the world's largest at $37.9 billion, accounting for around a third of global sales annually, according to research from Euromonitor. Adult diaper revenue, however, shot up 13% - highlighting how China's rapidly ageing population is prompting shifts in consumer spending. Reuters GraphicsShares for the three firms now trade between a third and a fifth of their all-time highs.
Shares of Tempur Sealy, which said the deal was expected to be closed in the second half of 2024, were down 3% in premarket trading. Lexington, Kentucky-based Tempur Sealy will pay around $2.7 billion in cash and $1.3 billion in Tempur stock issued to Mattress Firm shareholders, the companies said. After deal closure, Mattress Firm would operate as a separate business unit within Tempur Sealy. Tempur Sealy expects the deal to add to adjusted per-share earnings before synergies in the first year post-close. Tempur Sealy, which separately reported first-quarter sales in line with Wall Street estimates, said it would also expand its board and appoint two Mattress Firm directors once the deal closes.
Companies Genesis Global Capital, Llc FollowMay 4 (Reuters) - Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX received U.S. bankruptcy court permission on Thursday to sell its LedgerX business for $50 million, raising additional funds to repay creditors. Miami International Holdings owns the Bermuda Stock Exchange and several U.S.-registered securities exchanges, including the Miami International Securities Exchange. FTX said in a court filing that Genesis owes it that money as a result of transactions that took place shortly before FTX's bankruptcy filing. Genesis, unlike other creditors, was largely repaid before FTX went bankrupt, FTX said. FTX, a once-prominent crypto exchange, filed for Chapter 11 amid allegations that founder Sam Bankman-Fried used FTX customers' money to prop up Alameda's balance sheet.

Middle East pivot to Asia is strategic this time

Xi Jinping has brokered a deal the United States would have found hard to secure, despite its traditional military influence in the Middle East. The Middle East has trained its financial sights on Asia before. At current rates of growth, emerging Asia will become the top trade partner for the Gulf countries by 2028, per Asia House, surpassing advanced economies. As U.S.-China relations continue to sour, the Asian financial centre is looking to the Middle East to find new foreign companies to trade in the territory. Delegations from the two Middle East countries held talks in Beijing between March 6 and 10, the statement added.
