A combination of technologies — from various forms of batteries to other energy storage methods — will likely be necessary to increase capacity. As shown in this render, energy storage company Energy Vault, along with Skidmore, Owens & Merrill, the architecture and engineering firm behind some of the world's tallest buildings, is integrating gravity energy storage technology into building designs. A view of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, in December 2022. Two energy storage experts contacted by CNN questioned if the economics of a skyscraper battery could work, given the space that would need to be used for energy storage and the structural changes that would be needed to support the extra weight. Energy Vault has already completed a project in China which it says is the world’s first commercial-scale, non-pumped hydro gravitational energy storage system.

HSBC thinks oil giant Chevron stands to benefit from a recovery in oil prices. The firm upgraded shares of Chevron to buy from hold, with a $189 price target, which represents about 24% upside from Monday's close. Chevron shares are down nearly 10% this month. HSBC analyst Kim Fustier thinks that's mainly due to a drop in oil prices — U.S. crude oil is down 6% in May — noting it opens a buying opportunity. Meanwhile, the International Energy Association recently warned of a pending oil shortage that could lift prices higher in its monthly report for May .

Its goal has been to coax consumers to make the leap to its brand with the lower prices. Finding an 'irresistible' price Tesla's price cuts are an effort to take advantage of that growing market. "We have written extensively on the drag EVs have on margins for legacy [original equipment manufacturers] and the impact of EV price deflation. She added that the price cuts are an effort for Tesla to retain market dominance and stave off competition from big competitors like Ford. Longer term, Tesla's price fluctuations could do more harm than good if they end up turning consumers off.
Fossil-fuel interests are fighting for natural gas at the United Nations' COP27 climate summit. But natural gas is mostly methane — a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide — and it leaks. One-third of the fossil fuel lobbyists Global Witness identified are registered as part of national delegations, according to Dominic Kavakeb, a spokesperson for Global Witness. Fossil fuel influence threatens to undermine progress on one of the most powerful, immediate climate solutions: ending human methane emissions. While methane's consequences are severe, the good news is that countries and industries can quickly slow climate change by cutting methane emissions.
