“For over a century, the Pac-12 Conference has been recognized as a leading brand in intercollegiate athletics,” Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould said in a statement. I am thankful to our board for their efforts to welcome Boise State University, Colorado State University, California State University, Fresno, and San Diego State University to the conference. An exciting new era for the Pac-12 Conference begins today.”While Pac-12 will survive in name, it's highly unlikely it’ll have the same stature or immediate moneymaking potential of the Big Ten, Southeastern Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference and Big 12. “Today’s news is a great start to stabilizing the future of the Pac‑12 Conference and Washington State University,” Washington State President Kirk Schulz and Athletic Director Anne McCoy said in a joint statement. Washington and Oregon joined the Big Ten as well, with Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado leaving for the Irving, Texas-based Big 12.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance on Sunday defended his 2021 comments about allocating more votes to people with children, saying they were a “thought experiment.”In a widely circulated video clip from a 2021 speech he gave to a conservative organization called the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Vance suggested giving more votes to people with children than to people who have none. “Let’s give votes to all children in this country, but let’s give control over those votes to the parents of those children,” Vance said in his 2021 speech. “And I said, well, if we’re going to give the rights to the children, then we should actually just allow the parents to cast those votes. She said her husband’s “quip” was an effort to bring attention to U.S. policies that fall short of providing the support families need. What is it about our leadership and the way that they think about the world that makes it so hard sometimes for parents?’” she added.

Vance's campaign has been careful to point out that his comments about childless adults are aimed Democratic leaders. Advertisement"You go on Twitter and almost always the people who are most deranged and most psychotic are people who don't have kids," Vance said. AdvertisementJust two days later, Vance went on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" and made the comment about "childless cat ladies." Rather than walk back his comments, Vance attempted to profit off of them. Unknowingly addressing his future political opponent, Vance said, "If you want to brainwash children, have your own kids to brainwash."

Sen. JD Vance, the running mate of former President Donald Trump, on Friday defended his comments accusing key Democrats — including Vice President Kamala Harris — of being miserable "childless cat ladies" who want to "make the rest of the country miserable too," as well as anti-family and anti-kids. Vance has been under fire for days after the "cat ladies" remark resurfaced online following the Ohio Republican's nomination as the party's vice presidential candidate. I explicitly said in my remarks," Vance said. At the time Vance made his remarks Buttigieg was in the process of adopting twin babies with his partner. A month after his comment in 2021, Vance appeared on Tucker Carlson's now defunct-show on Fox News — Kelly's former employer — and expanded on it.

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said it was a relief to have Clark's pursuit of the NCAA record end. “There are so many people who have come before me and laid such a great foundation for women’s basketball, and that has to be celebrated, too. A National Labor Relations Board regional official has decided that Dartmouth basketball players are employees of the school, clearing the way for an election that would create the first-ever labor union for NCAA athletes. “Because Dartmouth has the right to control the work performed by the Dartmouth men’s basketball team, and the players perform that work in exchange for compensation, I find that the petitioned-for basketball players are employees within the meaning of the (National Labor Relations) Act,” NLRB Regional Director Laura Sacks ruled. “At Dartmouth, students’ primary objective is learning,” school attorney Joe McConnell said then. I've witnessed firsthand the nuances that set education in the United States and Japan apart, especially with colleges and universities. I've been fortunate to teach at Morgan State University, Art Center College of Design in Baltimore, and I'm now an assistant professor at Temple University Japan in Tokyo. It's a system designed to identify potential — whether one's destination is a public university or a prestigious private college. Students here are bound by a singular choice; they can only apply to one public university for admission. Mel Tucker, the head football coach at Michigan State University, was suspended without pay on Sunday amid an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, university officials said. A report in USA Today, published early Sunday morning, detailed allegations that Mr. Tucker harassed Brenda Tracy, a prominent advocate who speaks out against sexual abuse, after they teamed up to fight the culture of sexual violence in college sports. Ms. Tracy travels the country counseling college and professional athletes to stand against harassment and abuse, and made several visits to Michigan State in the past two years. Ms. Tracy accused Mr. Tucker of making sexual comments and masturbating during a phone call with her on April 28, 2022, according to USA Today, and she filed a formal Title IX complaint with the university in December. Alan Haller, a university vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics, said during a news conference on Sunday that the decision to abruptly suspend Mr. Tucker as head coach was “based on developments that may have a potential impact on the ongoing investigation.”

Billionaire Ken Griffin's Citadel internship program is attracting more students than ever before. Citadel, the $57 billion hedge fund, and market maker Citadel Securities recruit hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students every year for an 11-week summer internship program. The internship starts Monday, with a kickoff week at the Four Seasons in Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. "We think of campus recruiting very much the same way that other firms think of executive recruiting," Mitro said. "All of it is geared towards simulating what life would be like for them if they were to join the firm," Mitro said.

Greg Abbott is expected to pass a bill that would ban trans athletes from college games. The bill would only allow athletes to play on teams corresponding to their sex at birth. Greg Abbott is poised to sign a bill that would ban trans athletes from playing in college sports on the team that aligns with their gender identity, the HuffPost reported. 15 is yet another invasive, impractical measure mandated by the Texas legislature to 'fix' a problem that does not exist," Melodía Gutiérrez, Texas director for the Human Rights Campaign said, according to the Texas Tribune. The Tribune reported that Abbott has already said he would sign the bill when it lands on his desk.
The NCAA also argued the plaintiffs' division of damages unlawfully favored male athletes over female ones. In a statement, the NCAA said the plaintiffs' claims for "billions of dollars in damages" do not have "legal or factual support." Plaintiffs' lawyers for years have challenged rules that prohibited college athletes from receiving compensation. Class actions provide plaintiffs an avenue in court to pursue claims collectively rather than as individuals, imposing greater pressures on defendants. The plaintiffs' lawyers have asked the court to approve three classes seeking monetary damages: football and men's basketball; women's basketball; and an additional sports class.
Two former college athletes filed the complaint against the NCAA, which is the governing body for U.S. intercollegiate sports, and a group of its member conferences. The lawsuit alleged an unlawful conspiracy to bar cash awards for academic success. The suit seeks to represent a class of "thousands" of current and former student athletes who competed on a Division I team starting in April 2019, before the academic awards were permitted. The complaint said the NCAA, its league conferences and member schools "generate billions of dollars a year in revenues from Division I sports." The plaintiffs "did not receive the academic achievement awards that they would have received in a competitive market," the complaint alleges.
Florida's first lady, Casey DeSantis, is a close confidant to her powerful husband, several people told Insider. He added, "We would not see Ron DeSantis outside of press conferences if he did not have a wife and kids." Ron DeSantis began clawing his way into the national spotlight in 2017 as a member of the US House of Representatives. She smiled wryly and said: "Everyone knows my husband, Ron DeSantis, is endorsed by President Trump, but he's also an amazing dad. "Ron DeSantis would be a very good candidate for the St. Johns county commission if he did not have Casey DeSantis in his life," Schorsch said.
