BEIJING — Chinese electric car brand Zeekr announced new batteries on Tuesday, which it says boast the fastest charge in the world. Zeekr said that the new battery could achieve the same charge performance even in negative 10 degree Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) weather in about 30 minutes. Comparatively, Elon Musk's Tesla says its supercharger allow the company's vehicles to charge up to 200 miles in 15 minutes. Chinese automaker Nio has also offered the alternative of a three-minute battery swap. The subscription service automatically changes out the battery of designated car models with a charged one at specific swap stations.

The company incorporated Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology Co Ltd on Tuesday in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, where Huawei is based. The news marks another milestone for Huawei, which has accelerated its automotive ambitions in the past three years. But it has been hobbled in recent years by US export restrictions, which sent the company into a tailspin. The unveiling coincided with a launch by Chinese rival Xiaomi of its own first electric car, showing how competition between the two companies has spilled over to another sector. In November, a subsidiary of Changan, a Chinese state-owned automaker, disclosed that it had partnered with Huawei to form a new company created to provide smart car systems.

In October, JAC put up for sale the assets at the two plants, known as F1 plant and F2 plant where Nio has been producing its EVs. Regulators allowed Nio to produce and sell EVs in China via the collaboration with JAC in 2018 through which Nio paid JAC commission fees on each car it produced. Nio ranked ninth in terms of sales of EVs and plug-in hybrids in the first 10 months in China with 126,067 units, according to data from China Passenger Car Association.

The Pentagon said it would respond to the lawmakers' letter. Another signer of the letter, Republican Representative Elise Stefanik, said, "Autel drones made in Communist China present an unacceptable national security risk and should not be allowed to operate in America." Over 50% of drones sold in the United States are made by DJI, and they are the most popular drones in use by public safety agencies, Republican lawmakers said earlier this year.
