AdvertisementWe let Costco handle Thanksgiving dinner by ordering a premade meal from the warehouse chain's site. Our delicious dinner required little work to reheat, giving us more time to spend with family. I love the holiday season and all the delicious food it brings — so much so that I've even cooked an entire Thanksgiving from Ina Garten recipes. The $230 Thanksgiving dinner, provided by food distribution company Fortune Fish and Gourmet, was $50 off for Costco members when I preordered, making it just $180. Ina Garten, Martha Stewart, and Ree Drummond all have recipes for baked mac and cheese. Stewart's recipe uses four kinds of cheese and yellow onion, while Garten's calls for tomato. I thought The Pioneer Woman's recipe, which used roasted butternut squash, was the most flavorful. We've made Thanksgiving dinner for decades. AdvertisementMy husband and I love to cook, but after making a full Ina Garten Thanksgiving dinner last October, I knew I wouldn't have the stamina to cook another Thanksgiving meal just a few weeks later. We'd never considered ordering our holiday meal from a restaurant, but last year, we decided to try Cracker Barrel's "heat n' serve" family dinner . For $130, I ordered a turkey-breast dinner designed to serve four to six people (plus a few extras) to pick up the morning before Thanksgiving. Here's what Cracker Barrel Thanksgiving was like for me, my husband, and two teens.

During an appearance this weekend on Andy Cohen’s messy and drama-prone Bravo talk show, “Watch What Happens Live,” Martha Stewart stoked the fires of a feud between herself and her fellow culinary mogul, Ina Garten. The pair has long presented a familiar dichotomy to the world of homemaking television, with Ms. Stewart, 83, as the blonde perfectionist and Ms. Garten, 76, as the friendly brunette. They became close friends in the 1990s, but have since had a falling out — and they have decidedly different views of what transpired. Here is what you need to know about the feud and whose side Snoop Dogg is taking. During a segment on Mr. Cohen’s show, he asked Ms. Stewart, who was on set with her frequent companion Snoop Dogg, if she had read Ms. Garten’s memoir, “Be Ready When the Luck Happens.” The memoir, which was published on Oct. 1, details Ms. Garten’s difficult childhood and her road to culinary fame.

In her 20s, Garten worked in the White House for Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter writing policies for the nuclear energy budget. Garten had no idea that her next chapter was waiting 300 miles away — in a tiny 400-square-foot food shop in Long Island, New York. Garten thought she might be happier working in the food business over politics, as cooking was her passion. Compared to her stifling government job, Garten thought the food business could offer a greater sense of freedom and creativity. The following weekend, Garten and her husband Jeffrey drove out to New York and bought the shop for $20,000.

Always entering just as the table is being set, Jeffrey presents as the soft-spoken, supportive husband that clearly loves his wife. When Jeffrey asked what he could do to win her back Garten said one thing: go to therapy. "I'd be the wife, responsible for everything domestic, and Jeffrey would be the 'man' who helped occasionally," she writes. "Women everywhere were rethinking their roles and responsibilities," Garten writes. The one Garten and Jeffrey took seems to be more of a "therapeutic separation," she says.

Garten's baked rigatoni with lamb ragù is super delicious — but it's a lot of work. Garten's baked rigatoni is super comforting but takes quite a bit of work. I made this dish for a group of friends who definitely thought the pasta was worth the wait. "As Prue would say on 'The Great British Bake-off,' it was worth the calories — but I wouldn't say it was worth the time," he said. The process involved rolling the baked potatoes in a salt mixture. Paige BennettGarten's baked potatoes sounded pretty fancy, but they were simple to make. Instead of putting the rosemary, lemon zest, and salt in the food processor, I was able to quickly chop them to make a salt mixture. About 50 minutes in, I used a small food processor to combine the whipped-feta ingredients. It smelled so good that I knew I'd be making this again to top other recipes.

I had to use an immersion blender to make Guy Fieri's sauce. Then the recipe called for minced garlic and ginger, apple-cider vinegar, frozen raspberries, raspberry jam, and molasses. Once it was done cooking, I used an immersion blender to puree the sauce, and then a sieve to catch any raspberry seeds. This part wasn't fun because the sauce was relatively thick, so it took a while to drip through the sieve. And then my sieve broke, so couldn't get every seed out of the sauce, which ended up being fine.

The total cost of the ingredients ended up being a little bit pricey. Lara WalshGarten specifies using imported tuna packed in olive oil, so I chose two cans of Genova yellowfin tuna instead of the water-based ones I normally use. It was shockingly hard to find Swiss cheese that wasn't in the form of sandwich slices at my Jewel-Osco — let alone the Emmentaler that she suggested. I decided to use a Swiss Gruyere AOP instead, which had a similar flavor. My receipt ended up coming out to about $35, or roughly $8.75 per serving — which I found to be a little pricey for a tuna-melt sandwich.

I usually fry my bacon, but the recipe said to bake it, and I really liked this method. The bacon slices on a wired sheet pan. I placed five strips of bacon on a baking wire rack on a sheet pan and put it in the heated oven. After 20 minutes in the oven, the bacon turned out perfectly crispy. Cooking the bacon on the wire rack was easier than frying it, in my opinion.
