CNN —A federal judge granted Idaho serial killer Thomas Creech a stay of execution just one week before he was scheduled to be put to death, months after he survived a botched execution. They also argued Creech was left traumatized after an execution team made eight attempts to start the IV line. On Wednesday, Judge G. Murray Snow granted Creech a reprieve, as the Idaho Supreme Court decision denying his claims came about a week before his scheduled execution. Creech is now required to file a supplemental brief by Friday, court documents say, and his case will continue. The findings suggest some OB-GYN residents are receiving less training in abortion care, which could leave them unprepared for emergency situations. They’re based on conversations with leaders and educators from 20 OB-GYN residency programs conducted from February to June. The report also highlights how little education some OB-GYN residents are receiving in how to provide an abortion. In the past, residency programs often partnered with abortion clinics to provide that training, but in states with abortion bans, those clinics have shut down. Some patients, doctors and advocates have begun to seek that clarity in court.

Instead, a series of negotiations led to an eventual compromise decision limiting the Idaho law and temporarily forestalling further limits on abortion access from the high court. This exclusive series on the Supreme Court is based on CNN sources inside and outside the court with knowledge of the deliberations. The Idaho law had exemptions only to prevent death of the pregnant woman and in instances of rape or incest. It issued formal guidance saying the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), which requires stabilizing treatment regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, would preempt any state abortion ban in situations when an emergency termination was needed. Idaho lost in an initial proceeding in a US district court, as a judge issued a temporary injunction against the abortion ban.

I sent them an email about the possibility of work, and we left within a week and a half. Most of these people still had family members that were just captured by ISIS, and who were very traumatized. Home life in warMy wife is very connected to the work and its mission. And we'd come back to a big house where we take showers, there's a functioning family and hot food. The kids do miss out on having a steady community, but their community is always there when they get back.

Jule Hamrick spent years in physical therapy to learn how to walk again after a West Nile Virus infection. “So kind of like what you see with long Covid, we’ve seen that with West Nile as well, where you can get this ‘long West Nile’ kind of picture.”Watching West Nile patients struggle to recover from their infections made Murray wonder what would become of survivors over time. Brittany Yeager recently returned to the Girl Scout Camp in Idaho where she caught the West Nile virus. She went to two hospitals before a doctor tested her spinal fluid and discovered that she had West Nile virus. The CDC keeps maps of where West Nile cases have been detected in the United States.
