It's a "no-brainer" for "anyone in their 20s," says Eustache Clerveaux, a certified financial planner and senior analyst at Hudson Financial Group. This includes Roth 401(k)s. But for younger workers who don't have access to a workplace plan, a Roth IRA can be a great way to start building wealth. Like a 401(k), Roth IRA contributions benefit from compound interest, where your money and its returns grow together over time. Younger investors are less likely to hit Roth IRA income limitsOne key reason to start investing in your 20s is that you're more likely to qualify for a Roth IRA. This makes it an ideal time to pay taxes upfront on Roth IRA contributions.

Chris Unger | Ufc | Getty ImagesThere's considerable uncertainty over the contents of a future Republican tax package and the fate of the EV credit, experts said. Repealing all the IRA's green energy tax credits, including the EV credit, would offset that cost by about $921 billion, it said. She was getting ready to buy one thanks to the $7,500 EV credit, which made the vehicles more affordable, she said. To wait and buy in 2025 is "too big of a gamble" given Trump's antipathy toward the EV credit, she said. There's no question there's real risk in the EV credit going away.

WASHINGTON — When President Joe Biden relinquishes power in January, some parts of his legacy will be secure, while others may be undone by President-elect Donald Trump and a new Republican-controlled Congress. The pieces of Biden’s legacy go into four buckets. But it will be difficult for Trump to undo bipartisan legislation, such as measures about infrastructure and preventing gun violence, and the judges Biden appointed can’t be unseated. Biden’s immigration orders are ripe for Trump to target after he ran on a platform of mass deportations and clamping down on border security. Bipartisan Biden-era bills (largely safe)The parts of Biden’s legacy that will be relatively safe are the bipartisan laws he passed, which are subject to filibusters and therefore give Democrats the power to protect them.

That is just one reason why policy experts see a retirement savings crisis on tap for so many Americans over the next several decades. This results in an increase in retirement income of $150 per month,” Gusto’s researchers wrote. Initial data also suggests that the introduction of auto IRAs might correlate with more employers offering their own plans. It’s not entirely clear why, since smaller businesses often cite cost and administrative burden as reasons why they don’t sponsor a retirement plan. And employer plans offer workers tax breaks and direct matching contributions, which can help them grow their nest eggs faster than they otherwise might.

CNN —President Joe Biden’s climate law is on the chopping block as Republicans prepare to have full control in Washington. But it’s not just Democrats gearing up to protect the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy policies. In other words, if Republicans successfully repeal Biden’s climate and clean energy law, their districts stand to lose the most. Conservative groups and companies who are using the clean energy tax credits are already starting to lobby lawmakers to save them. “To demonstrate that these tax credits are really a net profit for the economy, that really is the name of the game.”

Tesla stands to benefit from any removal of consumer tax credits on electric vehicle purchases. AdvertisementElon Musk supports a Trump plan to end tax credits of up to $7,500 for electric vehicle purchases. On Thursday, Reuters reported that Trump plans to end the EV tax credit, with support from Tesla representatives. In October, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, an industry group representing Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, and others, urged Congress to keep the tax credits. While Musk supports cutting the EV tax credit, reports of its potential demise appear to have spooked investors.

Trump's transition team aims to kill Biden EV tax credit: Reuters

Win Mcnamee | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesPresident-elect Donald Trump's transition team is planning to kill the $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric-vehicle purchases as part of broader tax-reform legislation, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters. Ending the tax credit could have grave implications for an already stalling U.S. EV transition. Representatives with the Trump transition and Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The alliance last month in an Oct. 15 letter urged Congress to retain the EV tax credits, calling them "critical to cementing the U.S. as a global leader in the future of automotive technology and manufacturing." Trump's energy transition team views the consumer EV credit as an easy target, believing that eliminating it would get broad consensus in a Republican-controlled Congress as part of a larger tax-reform bill.

After a campaign featuring promises to slash landmark climate legislation, and a first term record that included pulling the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement, President-elect Donald Trump's win casts a shadow of doubt over the world of global climate policy. As an isolationist, Trump-led American foreign policy cedes global leadership on the issue, an increasingly willing China can assume the spot instead. Ceding global climate leadership to China "would be a mistake"China is looking to "play a more proactive role internationally on climate change," said Joanna Lewis, an associate professor at Georgetown University and expert in international climate policy. But "it would be a mistake for the United States to completely cede not just [its] leadership role on climate change. But the development of low carbon technologies, that's really the area that has been particularly competitive between China and the United States," said Lewis.

While oil stocks tend to follow the direction of crude prices, the energy sector has gained 3.6% since election day, slightly outpacing the S & P 500. Since the election, natural gas stocks have been big winners on the prospect of more pipeline permitting. The annual U.N. climate summit began on Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan, with many country delegations concerned that Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5 will hinder progress to limit planetary warming. Trump has promised to again remove the United States, the world’s most significant historic greenhouse gas emitter, from international climate cooperation and maximize the country’s already record-high fossil fuel production. “For those of us dedicated to climate action, last week’s outcome in the United States is obviously bitterly disappointing,” Podesta said at the summit. “Let’s dispense with the idea that climate finance is charity,” he said at the Baku stadium. “An ambitious new climate finance goal is entirely in the self-interest of every nation, including the largest and wealthiest.”This year is on track to be the hottest on record.

President-elect Donald Trump should keep the U.S. involved in global efforts to address climate change, Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods said Tuesday. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement in 2017 and is expected to do so again in his second term. "I'm not sure how 'drill, baby, drill' translates into policy," Woods told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Nov. 1, referencing one of Trump's campaign slogans. "In 2025, Trump's influence on Congressional Republicans will be stronger but his margin in the House will be in the single digits (down from 47 in 2017). … The narrow House majority will complicate the passage of any tax bill in 2025," he said. Mills said the GOP is expected to use the budget reconciliation process to pass any of President-elect Trump's tax proposals. That measure, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act , ultimately passed and went into effect in 2018. Wolfe Research analyst Tobin Marcus also thinks passing a tax bill is a "complex challenge" with such narrow majorities across the House and the Senate.

The president-elect promised on the campaign trail to cut taxes on Social Security benefits in his second term. For some baby boomers, lower Social Security taxes could mean larger monthly checks in the short-term. But experts predict that the Social Security tax cuts, along with other campaign promises made by Trump, could quickly drain the national Social Security fund. More than 72 million Americans receive Social Security and the estimated average monthly check is $1,907 a month, per the Social Security Administration. Social Security tax cuts would hurt low-income retirees, younger generationsUS Social Security will be depleted in the next decade without Congressional action.
