CNN —At least 11 people have been killed and several others injured after an Israeli strike flattened a multi-story residential building in central Beirut overnight, Lebanese officials said. At least 23 other people were injured in the strike, according to a toll provided by Lebanon’s Civil Defense. Saturday’s attack marks the latest in a string of Israeli strikes on central Beirut in recent weeks, following the killing of a Hezbollah spokesperson in an airstrike last Sunday. Most Israeli airstrikes have targeted the Lebanese militant group’s stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs since hostilities ramped up early last month. On Friday, the director general of Dar Al Amal University Hospital near Baalbek in eastern Lebanon was killed along with six of his colleagues in an alleged Israeli strike, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

CNN —Nearly a hundred aid trucks were looted in southern Gaza on Saturday in what UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has described as “one of the worst” incidents of its kind. Of the 109 trucks carrying food supplies for UNRWA and the World Food Programme from the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, 97 trucks were “lost” in the looting, UNRWA told CNN in a statement Monday. Drivers were forced to unload trucks at gun point, aid workers were injured, and vehicles were damaged extensively, it said. In a report Monday that cited Gaza’s interior ministry, the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV channel claimed Gaza security forces had killed more than 20 people involved in looting aid trucks, though it did not specifically mention Saturday’s incident. Israel insists however that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has risen and that it is “working tirelessly” to get aid into the enclave.

Israel launched what it described as a “limited ground operation” to expel Hezbollah from southern Lebanon early last month. CNN —Israeli police have arrested a top aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over allegedly leaking classified information to foreign media. Opposition leaders say the intelligence was “faked,” and part of a ruse to thwart a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza. Protesters in Tel Aviv call on Netanyahu to strike a deal to release hostages held in Gaza, in late October. Israel announced Sunday that it carried out a special ground operation in Syria "in recent months," according to a statement from the Israel Defense Forces. The IDF also say they detained an "Iranian terror network operative" during the mission, who they identified as Ali Soleiman al-Assi. The ministry added that the strikes hit a military site in Hama and a car assembly plant in Hassia. Syrian state television also reported that the strikes hit vehicles loaded with medical and relief supplies and ignited a large fire in the area. Israel has vowed to stop Iranian entrenchment in Syria, particularly since Syria is a key route for Iran to send weapons to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

CNN —The Israeli military says it has captured a senior Hezbollah operative in an amphibious special forces raid in northern Lebanon. Members of the elite Shayetet 13 force seized the alleged Hezbollah operative after landing on the coast in Batroun, a town in northern Lebanon, then took him back to Israeli territory, an Israeli military official told CNN. The official added that the seized operative was now being investigated by Unit 504 – an intelligence unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The Lebanese government said its security services were investigating “an incident that took place in the Batroun area,” at dawn Friday. Hezbollah released a statement referring to an incident of “Zionist aggression in the Batroun area” but did not provide further details.

Dubbed the Iron Beam, the shield aims to use high-power lasers to counter an array of projectiles, including missiles, drones, rockets and mortars, Israel’s defense ministry said this week. “The initial capability of the ground-based laser system… is expected to enter operational service within one year,” he said.
