So, perhaps it is no surprise that robotics engineers are highly sought-after, with the United States alone expected to add 9,000 robotics engineers by 2032, according to Sokanu's Career Explorer. Another hotspot for robotics engineers is the island-nation of Singapore, the second most automated country after South Korea. Kelvin Ching is a Senior Robotics Engineer for Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), the country's first EV factory. He leads a team of robotics engineers that are overseeing the close to 200 robots assembling Hyundai's Ionic 6 model. Hyundai Motor North America announced it will recall over 42,000 vehicles due to a wiring issue that can cause the automobiles to roll away, according to a notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday. The 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz and Hyundai Tucson vehicles subject to the recall have transmissions that can shift out of “park” without the brake pedal having to be applied, increasing the risk of a crash or an injury, per the administration. All 2025 Santa Cruz and Tucson vehicles in the U.S. are subject to the recall, including over 35,500 Tucson and 6,900 Santa Cruz vehicles. In early November, it was discovered that the wiring issue that caused the issue with the Tucson vehicle may also have impacted Santa Cruz vehicles. This prompted a review from the North America Safety Decision Authority on Nov. 13 and a recall of the vehicles.

Hyundai Motor's newest all-electric vehicle is the 2026 Ioniq 9 SUV — a three-row, up to seven-passenger SUV for the U.S. market. The new vehicle is Hyundai's largest EV entry to date, joining the smaller Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 all-electric vehicles in the carmaker's growing fleet. The Ioniq 9 is expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships in the spring. Hyundai declined to disclose pricing for the new SUV until closer to its arrival in showrooms. The Kia EV9, from Hyundai's sister brand and which is based on the same vehicle platform, currently starts at around $55,000.

Shares of carmaker Hyundai 's Indian subsidiary started trading this week with much anticipation, only to drop by some 7% on its debut. Despite such success, it appears as if the stock market has given Hyundai the cold shoulder this week. First, the money raised by the stock market listing is being fed back to Hyundai's Korean parent. With the listing, the Indian subsidiary now commands nearly half the market capitalization of its Korean parent. However, the Indian subsidiary must now pay a flat 3.5% of total revenue going forward.

Hyundai Motor reported record quarterly profit and revenue on Thursday on strong sales of high-margin cars and said it would expand hybrid lineups to brace for possible changes in U.S. electric vehicle policies following the election. But Hyundai also warned of an uncertain outlook due to intensifying price competition as inflation and high interest rates squeeze consumers. Hyundai reported a net profit of 4 trillion won ($2.9 billion) for the April-June period, up 23% from a year earlier and easily beating the 3.4 trillion won average of 21 analyst estimates compiled by LSEG SmartEstimate. The net profit was its highest quarterly since the previous record high set in the Q2 2022. Domestic vehicle sales in South Korea, Hyundai's second-biggest market, slumped 10% in the second quarter, extending from a 16% drop in the previous quarter, as consumers continue to grapple with surging inflation and a weak economy.

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a mid-size three-row family SUV that's all-new for 2024. I recently reviewed a well-equipped Santa Fe in the off-road focused XRT trim. I was impressed by the Santa Fe's rugged looks, useful interior features, and updated tech. This year, Hyundai gave the Santa Fe a full-on makeover, complete with rugged, angular looks and a standard third-row seat. While still slotted between Hyundai's compact Tucson and the brand's flagship Palisade, the new Santa Fe now has a distinct look and feel that stands out from the crowd.
