The proposed tax credit, 45V, is meant to turbocharge the production of low-emissions hydrogen. "The IRA's section 45V production tax credit is the most generous clean hydrogen subsidy in the world," Jesse Jenkins, professor of macro-scale energy systems at Princeton University, told CNBC. John Macdougall | Afp | Getty ImagesThe adjudication of the hydrogen tax credit has become about more than just the hydrogen tax credit, too. The amount of the hydrogen tax credit, which is available for 10 years, depends on the emissions generated in making hydrogen. If hydrogen is produced without releasing any carbon emissions, the tax credit is maxed out at $3 per kilogram of hydrogen.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — It’s been 15 years since the world’s elite gas balloon pilots have gathered in the United States for a race with roots that stretch back more than a century. Their ballooning résumé includes four wins in the America's Challenge long-distance gas balloon race, and third- and fourth-place finishes in previous Gordon Bennett competitions. Unlike the colorful hot air balloons that ascend en masse during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta by using heated ambient air, gas balloons have an envelope filled with a gas lighter than air — usually hydrogen. He recalled the Gordon Bennett competition that occurred after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. The gas balloons were the only things in the sky as planes were still grounded.

"Almost all major energy companies believe that hydrogen will be an important part of their business in the future. Green hydrogen is the "cleanest" method of hydrogen production fueled by renewable energy sources, while blue hydrogen is produced from natural gas mixed with hot steam and a catalyst. A mix of green and blue hydrogen will likely be the fastest and cheapest solution to decarbonization, Beveridge said. To be sure, Beveridge admitted the hydrogen industry is still in the early stages of development, and choosing winners is "not easy." Two government officials told Reuters the government was concerned about the deal because Nebius's activities were funded by Yandex. A third, separate source said Nebius is part of Yandex's Dutch holding company, Yandex NV, and would be part of the new international company post-restructuring. "They were basically told that as long as they're connected to a Russian company, it's not going to work," one of the sources told Reuters. "Our Dutch holding company is in the process of divesting its Russian business – unfortunately this isn't a fast process," Shtan said. Energy issued a statement last month saying neither the company nor its chief executive, Michael Bobrov, has any connection with Russia.

Companies Nel ASA FollowCOPENHAGEN, March 7 (Reuters) - Norwegian hydrogen company Nel (NEL.OL) late on Monday said it had raised 1.61 billion Norwegian crowns ($154.70 million) through a private placement of 108 million new shares at 14.90 crowns per share, a 9% discount to the stock's closing in Oslo. Nel intends to use the net proceeds from the private placement to partially finance the expansion of its Heroeya plant or to begin construction of a new U.S. factory, the company said in a statement. "Normally the share price after an equity issue will reflect to a certain extent the pricing in the private placement," ABG Sundal Collier analyst Haakon Amundsen said. Nel on Tuesday said it was offering to sell an additional 10 million shares to owners who were not part of Monday's share sale. Hydrogen company Tree Energy Solutions plans to provide low-emission fuels for businesses in Europe as they struggle with energy shortages and higher prices. PREVIEWRoughly 96% of the hydrogen in Europe is produced using natural gas, resulting in significant CO2 emissions, according to the European Commission, the European Union’s executive arm. Marco Alverà, head of TES and former chief executive officer of Italian gas grid operator Snam SpA, spoke with WSJ Pro Sustainable Business about a green-hydrogen-based process to create synthetic natural gas. Mr. Alverà: I’m a fan of hydrogen, but not of hydrogen in itself. Suddenly, we’ve turned something problematic and illiquid like hydrogen into something very fungible like natural gas.
Next year should be a pivotal one for clean energy companies — and certain stocks are poised to stand out in the crowd, according to JPMorgan. Supply constraints and Covid-related dislocations have made for a difficult 2022 for clean energy names, analyst Bill Peterson said. Hydrogen company Plug Power is a leader in the emerging global hydrogen ecosystem, Peterson said. "The company continues to innovate, pursue global partnerships and acquisitions, and win customer bookings across its lines of business," Peterson wrote. Thus, the reward should be strong, sustainable growth within an expanding customer base as the EV market expands," Peterson wrote.
