Read previewBillionaire Joe Lewis, who owns the Tottenham Hotspur English soccer team, pleaded guilty Wednesday to securities fraud in federal court in Manhattan.
Mr. Lewis did not engage in improper trading in his own accounts,"Mark Herr, a spokesman for Lewis, later told BI.
"His conduct should be viewed in the context of Mr. Lewis' long life of accomplishment and integrity," he added.
Lewis faces up to 25 years in federal prison for each count of securities fraud.
"Mr. Lewis has come to the US voluntarily to answer these ill-conceived charges, and we will defend him vigorously in court."
